First time built motor problem.. need help

Just started my new built sti (forged internal) she runs smoothly ***65532;and great but last night I tried to go for a test drive but the transmission ***65532;won’t go in any gears.. goes in smoothly when the car is off but when the engine is running, it’s impossible to put in. I tried to drive it with putting into a gear when off and starting the car on. she runs great it just won’t switch gears. It’s like clutch isnt disengaging. The clutch pedal feels way too soft but it does come back to regular position after pressing. Any idea what it could be? I’m guessing it’s the air in my slave cylinder (idk how but the car sat in the drive way for like 6 months) but I just don’t want to take the engine out. Any help would be appreciated.

Start off bleeding your clutch slave cylinder- if that doesn't fix it- you may have put the clutch fork on wrong and you could potentially pop it into place without removing the transmission- otherwise you're going to need to remove the transmission and figure out why the clutch isn't releasing fully.

There could be a few issues here. Start from easiest and go to hardest to fix. Bleed your slave cylinder, have someone check and make sure the clutch fork is pivoting properly. Did you orientate the throw out bearing properly?

Did you have trouble getting the engine mated to the trans? If you forced it you could've damaged the input shaft splines or the splines on the clutch itself.

You also could've installed the clutch disc backwards, which is difficult but possible and would also cause this issue.

This got me worried about if I installed my clutch disk flipped… I did have a problem lining up the spline but I just hand cranked the crank pulley and it basically went in. It had about an inch or less of a gap so I just tightened the bell housing bolts slowly to mate the surface. Any idea why the clutch pedal feels too soft?

You did put the TOB on the clutch fork on the tranny prior to install? Fork pin got reinstalled? TOB installed correctly? Did you seat the TOB to the pressure plate? Is your clutch slave actually moving?

There's a surprising amount of things that can go wrong...

Alright so it’s been pretty hectic for me, moving, work, and personal stuff etc. but here’s what I have so far. I know folk is seated, tob is seated and other stuff is good to go. I feel like my slave isn’t extending as much as it should. I can physically attach a breaker bar to the folk and pull it towards the engine more.

I had this exact problem when I installed my v7 6speed. My tob wasn't fully seated.

If you forced the transmission and engine together, you may have cross splined the clutch disk. This would cause your issue. If you did cross spline the clutch disk on the input shaft, you may have bent something on the inside of the transmission. Check for axial thrust on the input shaft of the trans when you get it apart.

For your sake, I hope I'm wrong.
