Default Hyundai Coupe launch in 2011

Quote:
Hyundai’s long-awaited replacement for the Coupe is set to go on sale in the UK early next year, following its European debut at the Paris motor show in October.
The compact 2+2 has been designed as a direct rival to the VW Scirocco but is expected be several thousands of pounds cheaper.

Spied by Autocar on a recent trip to Hyundai’s Namyang R&D centre in Korea, the new Coupe looks short, with quite a long and flat-looking rear deck, but is otherwise a close match for the 2007 Veloster concept.
Company insiders suggest that the Coupe will have an asymmetric body, with two doors on the left-hand side of the car to make entry to the rear of the cabin easier from the kerb. The car will also have a conventional hatchback.
Powering the new Coupe is Hyundai’s latest 1.6-litre, direct-injection ‘Theta’ engine. In entry-level trim it’ll have 140bhp, and an optional twin-clutch gearbox. A 200bhp 1.6-litre turbo variant will arrive after launch.

Is this the 'sCoupe' replacement? If so, was it really 'long awaited'??

This car is promising, I'm curious to see if Hyundai can build a better modern-day CRX than Honda.

I am wondering if it will be a direct Tiburon replacement, or a replacement that is more inline with the MS3 and Focus ST.

^from what I've read in motor trend and Car & Driver, its rumored to be the direct Tib replacement.

But again, its all speculation.

Most likely a Tiburon replacement. It wouldn't make sense to have a Tiburon, this new coupe, and Genesis Coupe all slated on top of each other.

That depends on what your definition of "direct" is.

It will likely be a replacement, as in, this car will start being sold, and the current Tiburon will stop.

This form factor looks like a "high-roof" boxier coupe profile, more like MS3 and Focus ST, or the older focus 3-door with a long roof, and almost vertical hatch portal.

It is likely going toward the "hot hatch" look, as Genesis Coupe has the sleeker profile.

If this "veloster/tiburon" coupe pushes the Genesis coupe up-market closer to the Genesis Sedan...

I hope Kia, the newly re-hashed "sporty" version of Hyundai, will get a slightly scaled back version of both the Hyundai Genesis RWD sedan and coupe. If Hyundai's Genesis sub-brand goes up-market, Kia can back-fill behind that move.

Kia is rumored to be developing a K9-model-code RWD sporty sedan, based on a trimmed-down Genesis Sedan, already. If Genesis Coupe follows, a Kia RWD coupe could back-fill into Genesis Coupe's current position.

Yes,
I really didn't clarify my statement. I was wondering if it will be a true-ish coupe like the current Tiburon, or a hot hatch in the same vein as the MS3. I do know that this car will "replace" the Tiburon in the Hyundai line.

Looks pretty nice from the concept photo. Hyundai is making some of the best designs out there in my opinion. Subaru should steal some of their designers.

I don't know about that. They are still copying. This coupe to me looks like Hyundai took alot of their styling cues from the Nissan 370Z.

The Veloster concept came out 2 years before the 370Z. Doh!

That statement would have merit had the 350Z not existed. Doh!

What have 350Z to do with this coupe and 370Z?

Let me know if I'm not understanding you. Now you're saying the Veloster is a copy of the 350Z?

your thinking of something else, the original replacement was dropped when the Genesis coupe came out. this is the Focus, VW, etc. comp. Over on the KDM forums, I own a 08 Elantra HD Incus edition, and we have been looking at this for the new official "hyundai New face-lift" youll start to see a lot of hyundais adopting this style of front. The Tibby replacement look a hella lot different, more like the Genesis coupe design... but hyundai reps on the hyundai forums have pretty uch said no tibby... Really since ive moved on to the Subie, which is soo much better and funner than my hyundai. i dont care, lol. But this car is here to be the whole sub-compact euro hatch kind of Competition...

Might make an AW supercar and race it on the WRC circuit and faster than STI and $10k less cost. Get out of my way competition! Hyundai is going gangbusters, Competition is good as consumer wins this race every time.

Default SPY VIDEO: 2012 Hyundai Veloster Coupe Caught Testing in Europe

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2010/07...ter-coupe.html

Quote:
A prototype model of Hyundai's long-awaited Veloster sport hatch that will essentially act as a replacement for the Tiburon, otherwise known as the Coupe, across the pond and other markets, was spotted running around public roads in Europe.

We're not sure if Hyundai will keep the "Veloster" name of the concept car, but we do know that the South Korean automaker's proposal will compete head on with other low roof sport hatchbacks like the VW Scirocco and the more recent Honda CR-Z hybrid.

From what we can tell, the production version will remain close to the 2007 Veloster Concept in all but one aspect; as you can see in the video after the jump, the road-going model features an asymmetric body with a longer door on the driver's side. This could indicate the presence of a second, suicide-style, door on the passenger's side - think MINI Clubman.

Under the hood, Hyundai has already confirmed one powerplant, the firm's new 1.6-liter four cylinder engine with direct injection pushing out 140-horsepower in entry-level trim. The company said it expects this model to return a combined fuel economy of over 40 mpg US (5.8lt/100km or 48mpg UK).

Rumored, but not confirmed, are a turbocharged version of the 1.6-liter petrol unit producing close to 200HP and a diesel engine for the European market as well as a more powerful four-cylinder petrol for North America.

The production version of the Veloster is expected to make its European debut at the forthcoming Paris Motor Show at in September and its U.S. premiere at the 2011 Detroit show next January, with sales following shortly after.

If this thing is going to have a 200hp version, then the Genesis coupe is all but guaranteed to get the hi-test DI 2.0T motor that the Sonata is available with.
