Default Which is a better turbo for efficiency and availability for quick responsive spool up

I am looking at a VF48 and a FP 18G and i want to run about 20lbs of boost on 550 injectors

You will need to upgrade your injectors for sure. I have a FP RED and it spools about 3500 rpm's.

Hope that helps? PM with any other ?'s

I had an FP 18g on my 2006 wrx with stock injectors at about 18-19lbs of boost and i loved it. If you wait a couple days my friend is putting a vf48 on his 07 wrx.

1) the stock injectors are 565cc, the same as the STi.
2) The FP Red is a bolt on GT35R with a small turbine. Should be a 4200 rpm turbo. So how Version:88 is getting full spool by 3500 rpm is beyond me
3) Neither turbo's. 20 psi is out of there efficiency zone. You would be better off with the APT GT3071R or the Blouch Polka pickle for those boost levels. The VFxx turbo and 18G are more of a 17-18 psi turbo. You can take the VF and 18G to 20+ psi but it will start tapering fast shortly after.

If you want to stick with the stock injectors, take a look at the APS SR30 or the ATP GT28R. They are similar to the VF turbo but will spool faster and make slightly more power. Plus they will last longer being a CHRA.

If you choose to get a turbo based on boost goals, you will need 750cc injectors. In my honest opinion, for the 2.5L I wouldn't do anything smaller than a 20G if you are going with a bigger turbo.

I wasn't referring to you. I was posting for the OP. and hawkman, you are making as much power as brody was on his 18G

seriously!!! You have a VF39 already, the VF48 isn't going to do much of anything for you. (Emoticon for banging head against a brick wall)

OKAY, that makes more sense. I just realized that you are the TurboJunkie rebuilt VF39. You should still go bigger.

I am not with the whole bigger is better crew. I just want lightning spool and semi good top end. It is after all a DD, I think 300-350whp is just about right for a DD. Also I think that a vf48 set up with an inlet, ebcs, ewg, ported exhaust mani, crosspipe, ported intake mani and tgv deletes could make some sick power and be a great commuter car.

Have you ever driven a car with a "bigger turbo?" I can assure you that the 45-52 lbs minute turbo's spool up only a few 100 rpm slower than the VFxx turbo's on the 2.5L. And when making 120 more WHP up top, that few 100 rpm spool doesn't matter.

Drop a gear and my spool is just as fast as the stock turbo, from a same gear roll you may have a 5 foot initial jump, but then I will have a semi trailer lead by the end of the gear.

I don't know why you keep saying that. It is the same turbo you have but on a bolt on fashion.
