Default 2016 WRX intercooler Screen needed?

Just got a new 2016 WRX!!! I remember on my 08 the fins on the intercooler would get bent from bugs and such. I made a home made screen for the 2016 with gutter guard pieces. Needed or does it somehow not let enough air through?

I'm sure it's fine. Air is still getting through.

Also sure that bugs causing one or two bent fins is some seriously anal worrying going on there.

Best of luck when you find that first rock chip on the front bumper/hood.

Totally unnecessary bugs won't bend the fins they just kind of stick to it. Besides I'd rather have a bent fin here and there than limit air to the intercooler. You'd be surprised how much surface area that covers.

Buy an aftermarket intercooler. Their fins seem to take a bird sized insect to bend.

Bugs and or Rocks... I can take the guard off that I made if it restricts air flow... I just didn't think it would make that big of a difference? Any more thoughts?

Over 12 years no issues. Sure a few bent fins, take a thin screwdriver and unbend. Do this once a year or so.

I cared for about a week... Just didn't think it was needed. I have a few bent fins, I straight them out with my wife's tweezers every so often...

I even put the tweezers back where I got them... Haha

I will say from experience if you live in an area that gets hail storms it's not a bad idea.

Do you also have your hood scoop removed? How is the hail going to hit your TMIC??

The only reason for a screen is if your OCD is so crazily high that you must put on a screen while you lock your car 7 times while saying "Cincinnati" 7 times before walking away. You would literally have to have Neal Peart play the full drum solo version of Working Man on your intercooler before the bent fins have an impact. Calm your tits.

Holy **** your question brought in the Unabomber himself. Didn't know he was MAIC, but I digress...

I visited Google this morning after finding bent fins from a Labor Day road trip... found this other old thread staring Unabomber's brutally blunt words of wisdom:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1887429

...then also read up on intercooler covers. Made me feel like I was in a parallel universe when I came to general and saw this thread, but again I digress.

Plenty of good threads out there about how to fix the fins with a pair of tweezers and a toothpick instead of covering. It's really easy (did mine today, back to looking like it did when I drove off the lot), it's just tedious.

Me too!

Waited until she was doing yoga, swiped the tweezers, fixed the fins, slipped them back into that weird tweezer carrying case they have...
