Brembos back on along with Perrin Master Cylinder Brace Pedal feel and stopping is so much better vs stock, there is really no comparison.

Jeff, your car is just awesome. I've been following your build since the start and each setup has been something special. May have over looked it, but what size wheel/tire setup on the grams? I have a set of 18x9.5+38 TE37 Saga on the way for my 16, lowered on swift spec-r/stock struts. Not sure if I should go 255 or try and squeeze a 265. Not looking to do any fender work.

Thanks!

265/35/18 Firehawks.

You can run both sizes, but each tire manufacturer sizes run a little different. For example, 255 Michelin's fit much closer to a 265 and when I ran a 255 Firehawk they were too small. I run 265 Firehawks as a result which is great IMO.

In a nut shell- If the tire is known to run large then a 255/35 is good... if the tire you choose runs smaller then go with a 265/35

Hope that helps.

Jeff

Sweet! I was going to roll with the Bridgestone RE71R's, but the Firehawks are significantly cheaper and more than enough for what I need. I don't track the car, just some spirited driving on the back roads. So, 265's it is then.

Enjoy, I think you will love them. I've had MPSS, RE01, etc and the Firehawks are more than enough at the right price

Really no trade off honestly.

Got my retrofited lights back from Evil Headlights.

Lightwerkz Quick retro kit
Morimotto Mini D2S 5.o
XB 4500k
Hylux ballasts
Diode Dynamics switchback Clights with DRL Harness

I accidentally scratched one lens when I first got them back so I had to source another light to swap lenses with. Just got that ligth back with the replacement lens but I am not 100% happy as there are some marks inside the light that weren't there before and a small mark on the chrome portion near the sidemarker. Being OCD I know its going to bother me over time but I know opening these up and re-sealing them is not a delicate process so I'd rather just keep them as is. I'm pretty sure no one would notice so oh well. The light output and clight are going to be so nice the small imperfections shouldn't matter. I just want to make sure the imperfections aren't amplified when the lights are on.

PS- I kept the chrome because I think painting the housing looks kind of cheap and I remember the days when the real deal JDM/Spec C lights were chrome. Just my thing I guess. I wanted super clean OEM+ look with much much better guts/output and clean LED Clight. Also considering a 2018+ Facelift so needed the switchbacks so I can delete the lower turn signals and run STi Fog cover blanks.

Retrofit parts were 450ish with a discount from Lightwerkz
250 for donor lights
350 for install labor from EvilHealights

Worth it IMO. LED from Limited model didn’t have the output I wanted.

What imperfections on the headlights? That cut off is well worth it, hopefully you can get some night pics haha. Any plans for the Diode Dynamic SS3 fogs?

Also still waiting for those exhaust video Jeff(yawns) lol.

The cleanliness of everything is impressive, but the quality and care of that rear section is gorgeous! Glad you're sticking with it!

Some weird marks on the inside of the headlight cover lens but its not noticeable thank goodness. Night pics to come- I haven't even driven at night sadly enough... Virus drama and 2 small kids keeps me busy in the evenings!

I thought I sent you this video, my apologies if I didn't.

You said you couldn't trade in the WRX. But did you end up getting the Accent anyways?

Nah, decided against it.

Little update on the WRX... Got some PROVA Yellow Mirrors as well as donor WRX\Crosstrek mirrors. I am going to remove the OEM glass from the frames and install the PROVA glass directly in the frame vs as an overlay on OEM glass. This will look much cleaner IMO and I am using 3m Windo-Weld for a permenant install

Untitled by Jeff Ruhl, on Flickr

I also made a move on a different suspension setup and ordered Perrin's steering dampener.

More to come!

Can't wait to see what you did with updates for the suspension Jeff!

Where did you order the wide angle mirrors from? I went with the Subispeed blue wide angles with turn signals and I love them.

Hi JeffrWRX

Very nice build.. I almost did what you did.. trade my WRX in for an Accent (the wife really hates my WRX.. lol) but looking at all the time and $$ invested I just couldn't do it either! Glad to see other like minded peeps.

Have you tried using an OS Giken LSD? I blew out my Cusco 1.5 way doing icy hill climbs 1 1/2 yrs ago.. and replaced with an OS Giken.. so far so good and no lurching on slow parking lot corners! and my butt dyno couldn't tell the difference from the Cusco to the OS Giken (they perform very similarly and seem to be affected the same by the MapDCCD..) again I went 2 months without driving it, so I don't remember exactly the feel etc.. I also installed this:
ASF Machine billet rear diff cover

As we realized that the Rear LSD generates more heat than the front and if driven hard is prone to failure.. etc..

Can't wait to see you rock the T3's. I was running 4 way MCA suspension system for Rally, yet downgraded to RCE T2's and for DD they are great.. I can only imagine how the T3's will handle!

Best of luck and looking forward to updates to your awesome build!

Thanks! I miss my Cusco but I honestly think I’m going to go for an STi swap vs doing just a rear diff again. We’ll see but thanks for the info. I can’t wait to get the T3s in on Tuesday

That rear diff cover looks incredible!
