my wrx spun a bearing so im in a dilema to balance or to not balance the new OEM crankshaft. whats everybodys thoughts? and any clue what the pricing on it is? i figure i might as well balance the flywheel/pressure plate while im there right?

Correct me if I'm wrong. But isnt the flywheel already mostly balanced. And they mark the residual weight with a dot. Then per the fsm you make it 60 degrees from the dot on the pp

well, I'm not sure if it's questionable balancing either?

The FSM says 130* degrees apart, minimum.

for the installment, no its 60 or 120 degrees, and 120 degrees= -60 degrees. You cant install a 5mt flywheel and pressure plate with 130 degrees of separation. Unless you drill new holes....

I was saying correct me if im wrong about the need to balance these pieces as they are balanced from the factory to a degree or they at least tell you where the extra weight is.

I just feel like the OEM stuff isn't balanced enough to my expectations. I spun a bearing so I'm trying to limit any source of crank walk ever again

If you spun a bearing, the crankshaft may need to be reground. Have you checked the rod journal diameters? If it needs to be reground, I would suggest re-balancing. It wouldn't hurt either way, but it may not be necessary.

I'm not sure if you know this, but lack of oil is generally what causes a spun bearing. Have you looked into the cause of the spun bearing?

Its always good to balance your assembly if it's all new oem used aftermarket. Any bit out of balance can cause premature beating wear. It's just cheap insurance even if it's good

I was fooling around doing some doughnuts and fast dirt corners so I'm sure that's what caused it. just wana make sure it never happens again. anybody got any info on the 'Killer b' oil pan and pickup? supposed to not let slosh happen so badly. and I plan to buy a brand new crank but I need to see what kinda shape the one that's in there is currently in. probably gonna buy new

The killerB il pan and pickup are much better than stock.

Still, if you are rebuilding, get everything balanced by a good machine shop. Stock balancing is lousy at best, and if you rev to 8K or higher, the better balancing is required to keep your engine healthy.

exactly. oem balancing isn't even categorized as balancing in my book. I often see 7200rpm but I'm trying to kick the habit!

What Crank did you end up getting? I just spun a bearing as well and I want to upgrade from a stock crank for strength and reliability reasons.

Thanks,

Loof

Do it, get the connecting rods and the entire rotating assembly balanced. Your engine will rev and run smoother.
