Question 2.5 hybrid swap, what parts ar needed? Confused.

Just read the "another one bites the dust..." thread. I am in the early stages of a Hybrid swap. 2.5 short block and Ver 8 heads. That is I own the set up and was waiting for a 6mt. I have a question on parts to use. It would stand to reason the parts should all be USDM STI parts as they are "known" to work. It is unclear to me though.

1. What oil pump and pickup to use?
2. What oil pan to use?
3. What water pump?
4. Any issues or pluming needed with using the JDM Ver 8 heads on the 2.5?
4. Should I just add the 6mt and forgo the 2.5 swap until more info in known?

Oil pump doesnt matter. You dont have oil squiters so you dont need the ej22 pump, if you blew you last motor a new pump would be a good idea. Pan... the wrx one will work. Water pump is the same too I belive.

Why would you forgo the swap? The block is fine, the heads are great....

It seems lots of folks are having problems with the hybrid swap. just got done with Another one bites the dust... and it seems the bottom end may not be as good as everyone hoped. I read about more poped motors here than in the 2.0 forum. There seems to be concern about this combo, specifically the rod bearings. Seems to show up on hybrid swaps more.

Ya, that motor went because of a bad oil flow... and while the motor isnt the stongest its much better then the ej205. And ive seen 5 blown wrxs this year in factory 2.0 so... I dont know what you mean by that. The reason sti guys are blowing motors is because of a lack of tuning, and all subarus have rod bearing problems...

I think you should reread threw that thread and the others on the block and swaps.

Yeah, I saw the e-manage problems. I still plan on using the 2.0 ECU just the japaneese version so I can continue using ECU-TEK and a proper dyno tune. Good ting I live in AZ.

Too much information out ther I guess. I got that it had oil problems but nobody knew why. Send the oil for analysis, perhaps it was det, perhaps the oil pump and pickup, perhaps the corrosion on the bearings on and on and on. I realize the engine had problems with oil but it was stated it was only 1/2 quart low. It seems the actual cause is unknown.

I read about many 2.0 melt downs as well. Most due to crappy tuning or mail order maps. I saw a mail order map, first hand, from brand-X that was down right dangerous and ran horrible.

If you think the 2.5 block is a better solution than my 2.0 block, right now, with what is known now, I will take your word for it. As near as I can tell, with these Sube engines, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. That goes for the 2.5 as well I guess.

I'll take me chances. Thanks

Ya, the ej257 is a good block not the best. The ej22t and ej207 are better but if you want TQ the 257 is the way to go. The ej22 would need pistons and the ej207 isnt going to have the tq of the 2.5L.
