Normally Aspirated? or Naturally Aspirated.
The name of this forum....
I always thought NA meant Naturally Aspirated not Normally aspirated... Am I wrong?

I always thought the same way you do.
I reduce confusion though, I refer to it as NA |

either / or, it doesn't matter. I've personally heard the term 'normally aspirated' much more often, 'naturally aspirated' coming up about as often as someone saying 'chemical induction' when referring to nitrous oxide.

You say Tomato, I say Tomato.. well, that doesn't work when writing it down I guess but they both mean the same thing and are interchangable

I had never heard normally aspirated before. I've only been exposed to naturally aspirated. Most car magazines I read use that term as well which is probably why I never heard normally aspirated.

Yeah... I agree on Naturall Aspirated. Normally Aspirated is relative and only has significance when it is refered to against something else. Here we know that its being refered to against turbo. I like Naturally Aspirated because it's absolute, and doesn't need a point of reference. Just personal preference. I say "NA" too, jsut to be consistant.

It's Naturally Aspirated. I don't think I ever heard of Normally Aspirated. Plus, COBB Tuning says "Naturally Aspirated":

Like Imprezinator said either one is acceptable. It all really depends on what part of the automotive community you are familiar with but they still mean the same thing, no boost.

This has been itching at me for a LONG time on these forums haha. yes i realize its a 10 year old thread...better than starting a new one!
I have been on 10+ car forums and every single one i have been on has explained N/A as Naturally Aspirated, not Normally...I read through the posts above and it just made me more confident in posting this haha. It would make sense for the administration to change this, as it makes more sense. Normally aspirated refers to a common engine configuration in a given car, Naturally aspirated refers to the fact that the engine you are talking about is all engine, no turbo, supercharger, ect. just had to get it off my chest! |
