BTW just to make it clear, this isnt a "everyone go buy a bov!" thing. Im not saying everyone should have one, its a personal choice. Im just saying, if you dont want to run one, make sure you dont want to run it for the right reasons.

I mean its not particularly great for them, but its no worse than running an overly rich off the shelf map, which MANY of them are.
Actually its not as bad for them as an overly rich map. An overly rich map will be rich constantly. A bov has tiny rich spots only on vent. |

I blame all my life problems on my BOV. It makes a good scapegoat for everything.

NICE POST! I will laugh everytime I read BOV posts. I will just send them here. I feel like more posts need to be simple and to the point. Some of unabombers posts should be made into some simplified versions. not hating on his at all I just think more people would read them if they were a bit shorter and to the point

interesting... i come from ms3, and it's a different story. 1. you can't run VTA (unless you are modded to the teeth) 2. I had RKM SSQ valve, that i found to be very effective. 3. Forge (ninja sword), was a nice bpv. It did the same exact function as a stock one, but just made a ninja sword sound (kind of like a bov sound).
aftermarket bpv's made a difference in ms3's. ms3's would loose power after 5500rpm, if you had a CAI and DP (which made the car run a little higher boost and push more power in general), on a good bpv the car would hold boost for a lot longer. i did an experiment, stock bpv vs rkm. at 6000rpm on stocker my boost dropped to 5psi. with rkm it would drop only to 10-12psi. test was done the same day, 30 minutes in between. Aftermarket BPV did not add any power, but it helped to hold stock power a lot better.... So you are saying it's not the case with STI's? |

STI's hold their stock boost levels to redline (maybe 2 psi drop) which would put you at 12psi like u were saying. At least that's my experience. 5 psig sounds horrible.

i think people get confused with the term tuning in regards to a BOV. you CAN NOT tune for a blow off valve.. there is 2 things that may be related in sorts which can be thought of as tuning. 1 being that you have to adjust your BOV so that it works properly, maybe during a tune when boost is raised, you have to adjust it for added pressure.. 2 going with a blow thru maf setup, you would get your maf rescaled for the different location its in which in point lets you run a VTA blow off valve with out the negitive side effects. if you think of it this way. when a BOV vents, its when the motor is on its way back to an idle state. the maf is looking for air being recirc'd back into the intake which its not seeing. hence the lil spike in AFR. for anything to be possibly tuned for a VTA blow off valve would be like tuning the car at idle. hence why it cant be done with just a normal setup.

This thread is very good...
Its funny how a psshshhshshs sound can sound so sexy on a your car, and so annoying on a garbage truck. It seems that no BOV is just less headache. If its one less place for possible leaks, I am all for not having it. If there was any gain, I would be saying something else. |

So is it true that the 09' s bov is weak? i'm stage 2 And about to do injectors a better top mount and a Bcs. I'm now wondering if I should invest in a Perrin recirc valve and be done with it. It should be around 19 or 20 psi when done. I'll take the abuse for being a subby nube but that's how we learn. 09 wrx TBE catted with aem intake and protuned.

Yeah the 08-09 plastic valve (also the plastic valves that came on the LGT years before that) are garbage, and typically leak anywhere above stock boost. On a "stage 2" car, imo, a replacement valve is an absolute must. If you dont want the noise or somehow are still not understanding the entire concept about a valve not making you "run rich", there are many 100% recirculating options on the market

Are there any recirc valves that are like stock only don't leak? I don't want something with a 100 adjustments. Or can I just get a Perrin recirc and not touch it. Sorry for questions but I'm about to use perrins sale for a top mount ebcs and bpv to add to my stage 2. Just wanna get all the info I can before I pull the trigger and regret it.
