Hi Iím new to the Subaru scene, but I just recently picked up a 2013 wrx premium from a used car dealer. Car is stock and never modified from what they say and has 91k on the odometer. The first drive from the dealer home it was perfect up until i down shifted into third and started to accelerate. All was going normal till I was about to go into 4th gear, the car suddenly loss almost what seemed like all power for a split second and went away and I continued normally. When I looked at my dash again a split second later, my cel was on along with the what I think is the traction light and the cruise light is blinking. Can anyone explain to me what this could be by? I didnít mis shift or anything it happened the first time While accelerating hard in 3rd gear. And has done the same thing in almost any gear at hard acceleration. But doesnít happen all the time itís random. Please help me out. Iím taking it into the dealer tomorrow for inspection

Very good post. Iíve gradually been increasing my HP over time and getting used to how the vehicle is, but I always feel like I want more power.

Maybe Iíll always have that feeling 😭

It's time for a new sticky -- "do you want 500whp" -- or even, "do you want 600whp!"

Default Public Service Announcement. "I want 400whp!" Are you sure?

Here in S Fl. 600 whp is the new 500 whp!

It seems like it is benchmark everyone goes for once then get a taste of mods and tuning. Itís almost as if once someone goes stage 2 and breaks into the 300whp range, 600+ is the new and almost immediate goal.

Typically only the guys with the deep pockets get there without blowing the eff up. There arenít many of them however, so we see a good amount of failure here. Both on the mechanical side and first and foremost the decision making side.

12 Years after the thread was started I'll pitch in! LOL.
Been working on a streetable build now for a while.
One thing that wasn't mentioned in the OP is how the power is delivered and where the usable range is.
I'm running an FP blue, injectors the other normal stage 2 stuff. Currently limited to 350whp and 342wtq on stock engine internals. Dyno graph is nice and steady from 2200rpm all the way to around 5k with peak HP at 6400 or so. Very street-able and predictable.
While you can hit high top end speeds on the freeway... who can't with today's cars. What is important too me is of-highway road use. At 350 HP with the right tuning I already see my eventual goal of 450 may be on the light side!
I can also say extensive suspension mods and brakes and good tires are a must-needed part of the equation. High HP without control is just silly.

At least it's 400whp in a light AWD car.
Safer than 400whp in a light RWD.

Default Reliability and usage.

Think of it this way. Are you going to track the car? are you an experienced driver? how good are you mechanical skills with subarus or boxer engines? are you going to daily the car? everybody has said this time and time over again. take a moment and look at your car from realistic standpoint. is it going to benefit your everyday driving in the car or are you just looking for a night to blast a fast car.. for me I just enjoy a Stock STI or even 300-350 HP gain is fine.

If I were willing to dump way more money into my vehicles, I would love to build a proper 400whp daily driver. My last Forester XT has about 300whp.

Most with deep pockets are just able to pay for the rebuild when they do blow something up. Truth is: youíre tripling the cars output, and or, it was engineered for 1/3 of what youíre asking it to do. LOL.

honestly though Im at 400ish and at that point, I need so much room to use that power on the street and then there is the trade off that you have to consider. most of these turbos, 30r and bigger dont spool like a 16g you have to be in the upper range of rpms to use that power... just saying it not very linear and the turbos that big spool like at 4200 at the very earliest

Read this very early in my Subaru career and I can verify it has definitely helped. The 400whp mentality has to come with serious thought and some trade offs.

I've got a pretty good street combo running about 400whp. Between a Dom 1.5, E-85 and a JDM 6-speed the car is fully spooled by 3400 rpm with many gears to choose from. Flex fuel has made 400whp more achievable in many cases. The biggest issue with E-85 is proper fueling.
