Just bought my first Subaru. 2006 wrx sti silver. Has some Cobb stuff, cold air and heat shield with a high flow cat and some ridiculously loud exhaust( turbo back it seems). Dude had receipts for some internals, forged pistons, rings, some valves (he burnt one on a drive home about 50k ago) rod and main bearings. Think this is pretty much it.
I am thinking of doing Motul Gear 300 75-90 in front diff, tranny, and rear diff, oil change to Royal Purple 5w-30, needs an axle and some new coil overs( thinking bc racing $1000-1400 minutes range). I would like it to be daily car. I want a firm grip but something that absorbs bumps. Going to have wife and baby in it from time to time and I know most coilovers are ridiculously hard. Won’t be tracking it but want something adjustable and rebuild able for that “ buy once, cry once” lifestyle I live. Lol.
I appreciate you reading this far and will also appreciate all your inputs. Not new to cars but it’s been a while since I wrenched. In Newport Rhode Island area. Waiting on plates to come in the mail so any input now will be used to start ordering stuff so I can get car ride ready.
Oh yeah over flow coolant reservoir is damn near dry, drive it home and didn’t heat up or anything but found this weird. Thinking just any old 50/50 will work, unless you all say otherwise.
Thanks again.

Go hunt down M@ and the guys in his shop. Talk to them. If you want non garbage ride, think about either springs and good struts or just good struts. Mention that you want a decent ride and not just Bro-Low at the expense of everything.
Yes. I would like a nice comfortable ride, which absorbs bumps, but that will also stick a little. Something functional. Not sure how to find M@. Some further assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the response
Newbie here also. Have a question on my Impreza but can’t post a topic until I get three reply posts. Seems like an awfully silly rule.
I just posted into the “newbie” section. Seems to allow you to post threads.
fwiw I had a subaru tech recommend the oem subaru 75w gear oil. he seemed to think it was ok and had literally 0 reason to recommend anything else to me.
Yes I have been reading on the subject of gear oil for a few days now. Seems as if Amsoil severe gear has good reviews, Motul 300 has hit or miss and Subaru is no longer making “Super S”.
I was considering going Amsoil Severe Gear in tranny and Motul 90pa in the rear.

Hey man, welcome. I'm in Mass so not too far away. I would personally ditch the RP for T6 5w-40. A lot of folks here run it and some have even done Blackstone analysis with good results. Don't understand the appeal or RP but to each his own. For suspension I currently have BC racing coil overs which you can request a lighter than normal spring rate that is still within the factory dampening range so the request is free of charge. With that said BCs are pretty entry level and like folks have said if you don't need coils you might be better off with a good strut and spring setup. Best of luck.
Own (original owner) 2000
Impreza 2.5RS 2Door. It is very quick. Almost like it was geared differently. Anyone know anything about that model year.
Also own Forester 2014. Has well documented oil consumption problem. Anyone had any luck with a Subaru of America concerning this problem.
