2013 Impreza Conundrum
So I will be purchasing a 2013 impreza sport. I will immediately start upgrading the audio system, word has it that the OEM is not good. I have a few questions:
1. Is it worth ordering the tweeters from subaru just so i can have the pre-fabbed mounts and wiring in, or does it come with holes for the tweeters up high with some sort of blanks? (I do not want to be cutting holes in pillars) 2. If the tweeters are ordered from subaru, is the X-over built in to the door speaker, or is it running from the tweeter to the head unit? ( I will be replaced speakers first, then later HU) Not sure if this information has changed for the 2012/ 2013 impreza refresh, so trying to pick new/ same info from old. thanks in advanced! -gb

1. Your car already comes with tweeters standard, so if you plan on upgrading to aftermarket components, then you're all set.
2. AFAIK, the crossover is built into the tweeter itself (capacitor of some sort) |

Those are both true, but since the tweeter is built into the OEM mount you will need an adapter. I have made a couple for the Legacy/BRZ/Impreza models but I can't remember the dimensions. I have them somewhere.

I am interested in this too. I just bought a 2013 Impreza limited. I feel the audio is a little lacking, but I don't want to lose any of the factory functions, ie steering wheel control and BT.

Crutchfield has an interface that works with OEM stereos, it has two output channels that can be used with amp or subwoofer and is highly rated.
I found the link: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC2I...i.html?tp=2001 |

so the issue with the crappy sound is with the speakers ?
Just got a 2011 WRX and the sounds is very muddy and with no definition. After reading a few threads it seemed like the problem would be with the HU not the speakers. Id like to keep the stock HU and was thinking of just trying to add an amplifier. Any ideas? |

The OEM HU has a crazy EQ that needs to be disabled before making any other changes. But for the benefit of everybody, be aware that there are differences between the 2011 WRX stock system and the 2013 Impreza system, so don't get that confused. Last edited by phenryiv1; 05-31-2013 at 01:00 PM. |

This still needs an amp to run separates.

Get a 2 channel amplifier that uses the front speaker wires for inputs.
Get separates for the front. |

Changing the HU will definitely help with sound quality, but the speakers are still crap. Even after playing around with the hidden menu in the stock HU, the sound still didnt sound any better. So I upgraded the HU to a pioneer 2400bt. That helped with sound a lot, but still wasnt happy. SoI recently just upgraded the speakers to, polk db651, and it sounds amazing now. And if you're concerned about steering wheel control, there are adapters that can be purchased, such as the metra ASWC unit.

I am thinking of initially just upgrading the speakers, then saving up a little and adding a HU, dedicated amps, and sub. The stock HU will drive upgraded speakers, just not to their full potential, correct?
