If you are having issues starting with your BRAND NEW CAR, take it to the dealer to utilize your WARRANTY. Just about any FI (Fuel Injection) vehicle you can hop in and start right up without "priming."

I have a tendency to turn the key to accessory, leave it for a sec, and keep turning. That's primarily because my 86 Celica prefers starting if you let the fuel pump cycle for a second or two, and it's a force of habit.

I've done this on every car I've owned. I turn it to accessory (buckle up) and when the needles on the gauges stop moving I start mine.

You were wise to post about your long crank in the newbie section.

DO NOT do so in OT!

This. Just habit for me. And honestly, better for the car.

It sounds like you're losing fuel pressure as the car sits. You should not have to prime it before starting. I agree that you should take it to the dealer. It could be a leak at the fuel pump (in the plastic housing) or any other place along the fuel system.

I guess this could be somewhat related. How long, after you have started the car, do sit and idle before you drive? I usually wait at least 30 seconds if the temperature is above 60 degrees, and increase the time as the temperature get lower. Below freezing, at least 90 seconds.

With a new car like this and it running full synthetic I don't know if we even need to do this anymore but I still do.

Wait.....with drive by wire, does pumping the gas even do anything when the car isn't running? At most, it's moving the butterfly in the throttle body and annoying the ECU.

I too turn the key to accessory while buckling my seat belt and then I start the car. Not sure what pump runs (I assume the fuel pump) But I certainly hear some liquid getting sucked into some place somewhere in the car!

you should let the gauges cycle before cranking the car, this gives the fuel pump time to prime the line.

Am I the only one reading this thinking it's ridiculous? Maybe on a race car running duel walboros 1400cc injectors with a custom fuel rail running on E90... elictricity travels a lot faster than you can turn a key, I promise. Unless your car has been sitting for months on end without being started or you have a fuel line/pump issue this sounds extremely unnecessary and you're enjoying the Defi sweep too much. Just my opinion, but would love to see scientific evidence that contradicts it.

I believe what you're hearing is the secondary air pump, not the fuel pump.

I usually let the gauges do the full sweep before starting, I'm not sure why, it just feels natural I suppose.
