I'm in the same boat, sorta.

When I bought my civic, it was the top of the line. 2 months later they announce the Si and you better believe I was pissed.

Now, I'm considering keeping my car and buying an rx7, or getting a new wrx and selling my car. BUT, I don't want to buy a wrx and have the STi be announced a month later. I would probably kill Subaru.

Then again, there's always going to be something newer and nicer. You just have to go with what's best and be happy.

I got impatient of waiting for the 350Z, so I got the WRX and am really happy with it (with 17 P7's and Kuhmos). Now I will happily wait for the 350Z and/or the STi, or whatever nice toy comes along. If I get the STi I will sell the WRX, but if I get the 350Z I might have to keep the WRX for the back seat and the 4 wheel drive.

Sort of off topic, but I saw a 350z last night on the highway. I didn't think they were out yet, and maybe I was smoking crack, but it certainly looked like one, from both the front and back.

My problem is whatever car I get is going to be modded. So, buying a wrx now and getting an STi later isn't a viable option.

Oh well, we'll see if I can locate a decent rx7. If not, it looks like I'm putting an order in for a wrx within the next couple of weeks.

I'd get a WRX now. Yes, the STi has more power, a extra gear, etc.... but it isn't gonna make THAT much of a difference unless you race the car professionally. Plus, it is almost guarenteed the STi will not be the bargain the WRX is. I'd almost guesstimate that you could buy a WRX, and use the money saved to mod out your WRX to easily outperform a stock STi....

I aggree with LightSpeed hear. get a WRX use the money you saved (probaly 3 to 4 grand) and use it to modify your REX. you will easily out perform the STI if it ever comes. I mean if your buying it just for the name....thats just stupid in my opinion

im not buying it for the name, just thought that it would be worth while to get it instead of the REX. Like to me, the difference between a RSX and RSX type S. it comes with many of the options that i would like stock, and i dont have to dish out extra cash for after market or even more to get it from subbie..

I just wish they would come out with a definite date.. i want one soooo bad!! i dont mind waiting if i know its coming. but if i know for sure that it isnt then i can go right ahead and dive into the REX

Do what you want to do. I would personally wait for the STi because it has pretty much been confirmed that it is coming.

Just wait for the Mistubishi Evolution VII! Less than an STi, and considered by many magazines to be better than an STi. I know what i just said is blasphemy here, but hey, the facts are there...the Mistu EVO is going to be one hell of a car, the STi will be competition, but not much from what i've seen.

But still, i would much rather have an STi sport wagon (do they make those?? ) than a Mistu EVO, just because of the overall appeal of the wagon!

Forget the STi, Evo, Type R, or whatever else might or might not show up, wait for the 2004 (?) Nissan GT-R!

I'll be selling a kidney (and my beloved WRX) if they bring that thing over here, as long as it's $60K or less and not substantially neutered. I expect that car to be on par with a 911 Turbo for half the price (400HP + AWD). If it ever makes it (I'm not holding my breath)...

If you need a car right away, I'd say don't wait for the STi, immediate gratification is better. My old car was a piece of junk, and I'm enjoying every minute of my WRX!

Default just get the WRX.....

IF the STI does eventually arrive, you will be lucky to get one anyway.over here when it first arrived(in GC8 form)the waiting list was insane.the lucky ones to get hold of them were selling them on at nearly double the price
admittedly they seem to be a lot more available in the new GDA(?) form but still..................dreams are free

From what I've heard, the STi will have an MSRP of between $30k-$35k, and not too many of them coming over (I've heard 450 total!), so you can bet the dealerships will gouge you on the price. If you can wait, and can afford one, then wait. But for the money, the WRXis still a great car, performance wise, and for the money you'll save, you can get it above and beyond the STi, I would think. By the way, the numbers I stated are just some of the rumors I've been hearing here, not anything official, so don't yell at me if I'm wrong about something.

There is no STi SportWagon expected, though one does exist in the JDM market. The lads on ScoobyNet (UK mirror site) are reporting tests of them over there. This could augur well for the U.S. appearance of an STi wagon, especially given the shockingly high sales of the WRX wagon.

The STi has a lot of really nifty bits that the WRX doesn't have, and never will have, like the 6-speed gearbox and VVT engine. Most of the rest, like suspension and Brembo brakes, wheels etc, you can buy for your very own WRX.

Are these extra bits worth $10-$12K more? Only you can answer that question. But if you want one, my advice would be to get down to your dealer and put a deposit down on one. $500 should do it. Even if he tells you they aren't confirmed yet, blah, blah, make him take your money and write you up a receipt. It IS coming. The strongest rumored number is 1,700, which is quite a few. Dealer markups will indeed be the question, as well as will the STi be a one-year phenomenon, or will Subaru bring STis over every year from 2004 on?

And then there's the insurance question. My advice in that regard would be to bend over and grab your ankles. A hotted-up WRX model would bring out some impressive (or horrifying) premium numbers.

This is what I do not understand. SOA has said NOTHING about the STi coming to the states but everyone is saying that it is coming. What is up with that? Not only do we not know if it is comming we do not know what it is coming with as far as performance and options.

Like someone said earlier, there will always be something better coming out. If you like the WRX then get it.

Well what you could do is this

2002 2.5 RS 18,000
Ludespeed stage 3 turbo 4,150
Nalek gears 2,000
KYB AGX shocks 340
Eibach pro springs 220
Front rear strut towers 250
Rear 20mm sway bar 80
Front 4 pots 699
ACT Clutch 359
26,098

Figure no more than 2 grand worth of install work if you get it all done at once.

Thats would be a pretty darn good setup in my opinion. And most likely beat the heck out of a sti.I could be wrong though.

The question was WRX now vs STI later . I am in the Army and bought my car Sep 29th.. a time when I could have easily been in war a week later. I bought the WRX because it was there then, and I wanted it bad. But the advantage to the STI is that it will have more power and other equip stock that you can Finance I forget the member who posted the RS with 8000 dollars in parts and 2000 for install, but I do not think too many people can just drop 10,000in mods into a used car. Wish we could but thats not realistic.

Well, I pretty much decided against buying another used car. I'll get raped hardcore by getting an RX7 and I don't think I can finance a 94-95 for more than 36 months.

So, time to order the 'ol WRX.

My advice: Don't wait for the STi. My dealer told me that it's still up in the air and if it does come over that each dealership will only get one, it'll cost more than the sticker price, and you'd have to be veeery lucky to even get one of the few.
