Post review of '01 Impreza (info on turbo too)

http://www.carzone.co.za/html/cmnewcar_4.html

I find it interesting that they mention the RS as being the top-of-the-line N/A model. I guess they're going to start seeing RS's around the world now. I wonder if their RS's will have the 2.5 too or just the N/A 2.0. Anyway, as far as the U.S. turbo model goes, they did say it will have 225 BHP (whatever that is in hp).

They also say it will now be known as the WRX everywhere. No more GT, Turbo, 555, etc. 4 and 5-door models available only, but whether that applies to the U.S. is unknown. It's pretty interesting though, even if the new body doesn't make it here till next year. It is a preview.

Well, we have a Subaru rep. calling us and saying it's 250hp and will be available in Feb now. He aslo said there will be STI parts available for the car and they are still working out the pricing.

FHI Adds Power to Boost Subaru Sales in North America (Update2)

Tokyo, Feb. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., the maker of Subaru cars and trucks, hopes new models sporting more powerful engines will mean higher sales in the North American market, which buys about 90 percent of the cars it sells abroad.

The company, an affiliate of General Motors Corp., will release a 6-cylinder Legacy Outback sport-utility with a 3-liter, horizontally opposed engine, and 2-liter, turbo Impreza sedans and coupes that meet strict new U.S. emissions regulations, Fuji Heavy Senior Vice President Hideo Wada said in an interview.

``I think they'll add color to our line-up,'' he said. ``We want to spread the word (in the U.S.) about the high-performance of our products.''

I just fear that to many people will like the car and it will become the next Honda Civic. Oh, how I do not want to see my car at every stop light in town.

I don't think that's going to happen since it's out of the price range of the standard rice cars. The RS will probably still be priced in the $19's and the WRX will be priced in the $24's, equivalent to an Integra Type R. How many Type R's do you see on the road? Extremely rare if you ask me. In fact, I see 2-3 times more Impreza RS's than I do Type R's (real ones of course).

The "handful" has a number, but anybody can get one by just walking into the dealer. I asked the dealer about one (same dealer as I bought my RS, they also sell Acura), and she said it would take 5 weeks to get. Wow, 5 weeks. I sure am glad I didn't waste my time with that one. Hell, it only took 8 weeks to get my Impreza.

In fact, when I was at the dealer on Thursday, I looked around the showroom and lot. They actually had the same number of Impreza RS's as they did NSX's and ITR's: 1. They claim they only ship 1000 or whatever to the U.S.? How many do you think they sell? Don't be fooled when manufacturers say "limited availability" sometimes. Sometimes that just means "producing as many as we expect to sell". Subaru does the same thing with the RS. They ship 5000 or whatever RS's and call it "limited availability", but in fact they plan to sell 5000, whether they ship 5000 or 20,000.
