I would not mind installing a dual exhaust muffler on my 5 Door wagon. I wonder if there would be a company out there that would make these mufflers for us? Stainless Steel would be a plus!

Something like this, I am not a fan of the quad tips, so mine would be just with two.

You liked that didn't ya?

I know there is a structure in place in the middle of that unpainted area where that little cutout thing is. On either side it looks free and clear to me! Which is where the tips would be running anyway. Looks totally possible to me.

As far as mounts are concerned I would think the factory mounts at the rear are sufficient to hold up quad tips. But make sure the tips are a tasteful size. Anything more than a handful is a waste.

Itd be so easy to dremmel out part of the unpainted section to fit a nice pair of tips. Always love a nice pair of tips that are nice and tight up where they should be.
I agree. Unfortunately, if I only made/sold what I liked, I'd go out of business. I'm going to have to go with the majority rules on this one and stick with tips that hang below the bumper (you may we willing to cut into a new car, but I'm thinking the vast majority of potential customers won't). Subaru screwed you on that one, sorry. And unless you make it a habit of running over fallen trees and boulders, the chance of something snagging your exhaust and literally ripping it off is pretty slim. Good news: custom work is not a problem. If you can dream it, I can build it.

I'm a little confused as it seems be redundant, seeing as how it mimics this:

Nothing behind the black portion of the bumper, except two plastic hangers that secure the inside lip to the frame.

Just curious if it would be possible to make it work with the hatch-back stock exhaust hanger layout.

Wow, that really looks great! Approximately how much lower does it sit below the stock muffler setup?

I would like a muffler like the one on my last thread, would you be able to make something like that? If you can please let me know and I would buy it from you. I would like it a lot if it would be a bolt on option. And the car has the space for two separate mufflers too.

Is there any performance to be gained for this kind of mod or is it more oriented around improving the engines tone and appearance of the exhaust?

Has anyone replaced their muffler with straight pipe on a 2012 sedan? Any pics?

Well, anything is possible. But seeing as how you would be running the muffler perpendicular to how the factory one came, space restrictions would be a concern. And having someone build you such a thing would be expensive.

About four inches. Technically, the factory "pancake resonator" still sits lower to the ground.

I will be coming out with a dual exit quad tip axle back, but it will be expensive: north of $500

email me through my website, we can discuss it in detail

Unless you already have a performance header and high flow cat pipe and mid pipe, an axle back exhaust will only be a sound mod, not a performance mod. (even if you were to gain a few hp out of it, it unfortunately wouldn't be noticeable)
