Check out the Nameless Performance axleback. ONLY $300! Beats paying $700+ just to get the sound with no performance gain. Think there was a link on the first page of videos on youtube. fits the 2011 STi and WRX and it's 16 lbs lighter than stock.

Is this as loud as a full catback?

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but which, if any, of these catbacks are street legal (i.e., DOT and/or EPA-approved)?

Just weighing options. I liked the SPT, but the Maddad looks like a better bet, as it has a nice bass sound without being overly loud, and doesn't cost any ground clearance like the SPT does. I'd like to not invite equipment violation tickets from Officer Friendly, too.

All cat back exhausts are exempt from emissions restrictions. However, this does not change the fact that noise pollution is what usually gets you in trouble.

They are loud as hell and especially the Race, I dont personally like it compared to the Street/Resonated...Race is too raspy and farty, the Street is a nice tone and exactly how a boxer engine SHOULD sound...also you proabably will only see 1hp difference between the two, if even. The race is more prone to boost creep if paired with a catless DP, catless is just bad news unless you are running EWG...plus the loudness is just an attention getter, both good and bad

Thanks for the response. Personally, I do like a loud exhaust. For right now I am only just going to be getting a catback and keeping the stock downpipe. Is the street still loud? And I'm guessing it has a deeper tone and rumble than the N1 does, which is a plus.

Street is still crazy loud, just doesnt sound as "ricey"...it will still make the cops perk their ears...but it sounds amazing...The street and race are both N1's but race is straight through whereas the street is resonated so you dont get the annoying drone on the hwy and also mellows the sound just enough to make it sound not raspy

Yep, but if you have the $$ for it now, might as well do the Invidia catted DP, so that you can do it all at once while your down there...it will be a nice change too from the stock system

Yeah, but then doesn't that require a tune, which then will void my warrantY?

No it doesnt...read the Warranty FAQ...if you have a tune and your brakes break, warranty is still fine. Its only if you pop your engine, and keep the tune on it, and they have to legally PROVE that it was the tune that caused the engine to blow...thats why Cobb AP's are nice becuase you can just reinstall the factory tune before you go to the dealer so there are no problems. And if you do mods like intake and exhaust...that wont hurt your warranty because its not putting any more stress on the engine, just making it breathe better...my dealer told me that it was fine to do all that stuff, so I plan to!

Yeah well I know that it wouldn't void a warranty that has nothing to do with the part that I added. I would really like to go stage 2, but I don't know if I have the money for a full turboback plus a COBB AP. I actually have to bring my car in to the dealer because one of the window motors is screwed up, so I will probably talk to them and see what is okay.

Yea, I'm going to see what they say. And then if I do actually go stage 2, I have to get at least a boost gauge too, just to monitor and make sure everything is good. I would prefer a catless DP, but then that's a bit more boost creep prone without an EWG

So i've heard the difference between a stock hatch 2011 wrx exhaust and a 2011 spt exhaust, and there is quite a difference... but would it be a significant difference between the sedan stock exhaust and the spt exhaust? considering the sedan exhaust is louder than the hatch?

Oh and btw... I heard from Scott the parts guy from Punte Hills Subaru and he told me that the spt exhaust dropped to 6xx.

Here is another sound compilation of the SPT exhaust on my 2011 WRX hatch that I just installed. While it sounds amazing, it is a little louder than I was expecting.
