Default Engine mount testing....

There is a purpose to this, and I expect to be able to link video soon.

We threw some prototype parts into a car tonight, but for information that others may find interesting:

Old setup:
Group N engine mounts
Group N trans mount
Kartboy pitch stop

Motion of engine at startup 0.65".

New setup:
Test engine mounts from MAW with soft bushings installed
Group N trans mount
Kartboy pitch stop

Motion of engine at startup 0.35".

Surprisingly not harsh. Can you feel it? Yes. Is it obnoxious? No.

As I said video is forthcoming. Oh, and I have some pics too.

Interesting.

What about a 'true base' as in OEM, OEM, OEM?

Then of course a "why this combination would (would not) work".

You said old Group N. Do you expect this distance to change with time with the MAW bushings?

Anything beats the stock bushings. The entire engine would twist 5 degrees and move laterally a ways just taking off the oil drain. I laughed the first time I changed oil in a Subaru. I've never seen such things before.

I might suggest adding Cusco engine mounts to the mix just because some do own them. NVH is a little worse than Group N though.

Actually, the group n in there are not that old. when I said old I meant the old setup vs. something like the new hotness.

We have a couple of other tests to do. First we'll drive on these for a few days. Then we'll try out the stiffer bushings and take a measurement.

We also have a few other brands of mounts to try.

While we're doing this we'll also be testing them on the BRZ. We expect even better results on this as the stock mounts are very soft, and there's no pitch stop on that setup.

Now for some pics.

Please keep in mind that these are the prototypes. We received them raw so I hit them with a rattle can quick. Then Greg decided they needed some bling so he splattered the gold on them.

I suspect he's secretly a ricer.

The bushing that is in them is a shore 80A that we actually use for another product we make. Nice thing about part reuse is that I don't have to do new tools or create a new part to keep in stock.

This is a good thing for you as I make that other part in two stiffnesses, AND by using these it will keep overall cost down.

if the bolt came lose would the mount shift? looks like it would wiggle side to side... with other mounts like cusco they have 2 bolts so the housing wont move at all.

You could play the if the bolt came loose game on just about any bolt in the car really.

Given the direction of the bolt if it came loose it would slide a bit in the clevis. As for rotation about that axis, on these cars it's not a concern much because of the tranny mount, and the pitch stop keep for/aft pitch a bit in check.

I am impressed: the multi-use of an existing product (that you already make).

Now, if only it were much easier to change engine-mounts while in your garage, on your back, using a jack, and that's not the half-of-it.

There's substantially less material here than the group-n, OEM, etc pieces.

What are your thoughts on the longevity of these pieces?

Looking at how they are made and knowing the characteristics of the bushings longevity should be pretty good.

Are these OEM height or do they lower the engine position. If so how much lower?

Just curious. What is the application of the bushing that is being repurposed for this mount?

I see a transmission mount using two of the TiC bushings in a similar fashion to this prototype engine mount set.

But I just bought group n mounts from you. Now I can't say I have all tic bushings on my car.

Is the other bushing going to be the original hardness from pre enthusiasts?
