No one here knows about EJ207s and big port heads?

Yeah, building them and parts is no problem.

I'm more trying to research and gather as much info on them and how they performed with the "EJ207 single intake AVCS" as well as what there known faults were and how they can be improved to best prepare them for my build.

After searching for a couple of days now I can't seem to find where I read that they had valve seat problems or oil leaking past the valves or something like this. Would be great if anyone knew.

I think I have stumbled across something here regarding the Export EJ207's found in the MY03 STI (AUDM /SA / UK.) Seems Subaru chose HyperCast for the exports EJ207's as well as JDM then went back to forged for the Export MY04 STI and MY 05 STI. I always thought the export MY02 v7, MY03 v8 MY04 v8 and MY05 v9 were all the same short engine assembly

I think you will find there is an error in that part of the list because the type UK was only offered in RHD, the Type UK in that list is put against the LHD models.

I noticed that. I thought Subaru may have delivered some LHD "type UK models" to a few EUR dealerships outside of the UK. But since you say they only came in RHD then it must be an error. Another odd thing about these Export MY03 STI's is that they have the same short engine assembly part # 10103AB470 as the stated forged models.

As for the JDM models when Subaru went to the hypereutectic piston/ twinscroll bigger heads etc..., their short engine assembly part # are different.

Default Guide me pls

Meeting with a guy tomorrow about an 05 sti with "2005 STI JDM 2.0 ej207 swap". He says its not getting injector pulse or spark. Any siggestions on something obvious to look for(I would be trading for it so monetary investment is negligible) I have experience working on cars, but not sti's. Anyone had this issue during a swap?

Sounds like Wiring/Ecu related but who knows until you properly diagnose it.

Some things to look for if it's a genuine JDM EJ207 swap: the small white sticker on the timing cover / compare it to the chart on page 1 and see what model its from or check the head casting letters and numbers (they can be seen from underneath the car, next to where the headers bolt up to the heads on each side)

Some (e.g)
JDM Version 7's = S20V
JDM Version 8s = T20
Export EJ207's = S20

If it doesn't say any of these take a photo and post it up for us to look at, they could be rare Type-RA, S202 or limited heads/motors.

Also check Ecu model and if it still has the OEM turbo what model is it and research what model it cam on then add everything together and see what you have.

Good luck..

My V9 207 was delivered yesterday and I drained the oil and noticed in the factory oil pan there is no baffle where the drain plug is. On the USDM pans they have a small baffle that controls the oil when it comes out. I thought this was interesting.

This was a cost-saving change that did not result in a new part number, IIRC.

That's not going to help much as he could have any JDM ECU that works for the engine.

Default Help identifying engine series

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 2001 Subaru Impreza EJ20 JDM engine with AVCS, and I need help to identify what type of series engine it is. The VIN is worn out, and I need to find the right JDM ECU for the engine.

I've tried to cross reference the information provided on this forum, but I'm unable to match any of the numbers. That is why I'm reaching out for your help.

Below you will find several images for your reference.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
E

Thanks for your response. Do you know if there's a particular JDM ECU for V5-V6?

Regards,
E

from your pictures are you sure you have avcs? I remember reading that there was a v6 that had avcs but I think its super rare. you dont look like you have avcs sprokets so im not sure if you really have avcs or not. take a picture of the casting numbers and the avcs solenoids whe you get a chance, they should be right on the middle top of the heads

Great feedback, I will take better pictures this weekend and will post them for your reference. I'll also include the casting numbers and will look for the AVCS solenoids to confirm it has AVCS.

Thanks,
E

They also came with the 4EAT so that is what I would guess from looking at a bunch of engine bays.

Has anyone gotten their hands on one of the EJ207's from the current generation STI? I'm curious as to whether or not they are still ran on a 16bit ECU and are incompatible with USDM wiring and ECU's. If they switched the EJ207 over to DBW, with TGV's and an EGR that would be fantastic for swapping into a USDM VA chassis STI.
