Default The What is the latest news on 2012 WRX/STI thread.

Decided to put this thread together because I am patiently waiting on finding out when I may be able to trade in my 09 for a 2012 WRX. As far as rumors go I have heard from a source that they may not have the option to order until mid september or early october.

Has anyone heard differently?

I have already picked out my options and all that good stuff to make the car precisely what I want. Just waiting on making an order.

WRB WRX
Front Lip Splitter
Rear Deck Spoiler
Fog Light Kit
SPT cat Back Exhaust
Short Shift Kit and Bushing
Putting my rally armor mud flaps on it after

Then pick up a set all season tires.

Mods list is simple and everything is planned out. But the wait on ordering the car to begin with is wearing on my patience.

Yeah, ordering will be end of August, but delivery won't be until about November (2012 Impreza is estimated December/January).

Dude, if you're getting fog lights, WRX spoiler and block heater (not needed for Anchorage and you won't miss it) then I honestly think you should just get the Premium. The all-weather seats heat up QUICKLY (as well as wiper de-icers and side mirror warmers) and you don't have to open the sunroof if you don't want to, although I promise you the women will appreciate it (I get praise for mine all the time).

And please get dedicated winter tires. Don't be lazy. You won't regret it.

Just my $0.02 from living in Alaska for 26 years and having owned 5 Subarus.

All season tires are good at neither summer nor winter.

I am not interested in paying out the nose for studded tires again when I wont see another winter after june next year for a long time. BUT hey I did drive half of my first winter in Street tires and did perfectly fine lol. My GF at the time freaked out and made me get studs. Wondering if it would be simple enough to just stretch the studded tires I have for the 17X7 wheels onto the 2012 17X8s.

Also I am not a fan of moonroofs and currently have no issues with getting compliments on the car. Best reaction so far was from my friend Lakota who insisted her car was faster than mine (chevy impala) until I showed her otherwise while she rode shotgun, she was all sorts of excited after and now wants to trade her car in for a WRX.

The other thing is all the other comfort features really dont matter to me.
I was thinking about dropping the block heater as an option also. I rarely used it here in anc last year as is. So yeah I probaby wont get it.

My 09 is not a premium and other than the way it looks I am pretty happy with it but the looks is what is killing it for me being that the 11+ looks that much better. That and I wont have to worry about a crank bearing failure like I do with my 09.

If you're going somewhere that will never get cold then I can see your justification for not paying $1,825 to have most of what you want already installed PLUS all-weather elements. I really don't think you're going to miss that money when all is said and done. It's just convenient and that's pretty much what Subaru is all about.

Of course, if I was somewhere that never got cold then I wouldn't own a Subaru.

Well I could always wait for the toyobaru coming out and go RWD again. But my overall plan is to keep this as my DD so no matter where I move with each unit transfer I will have a good car to handle whatever comes my way.

As for having a different car for living south I am planning on building a MR2 and tracking it. Till I can do that I am planning on doing autoX with the subaru and doing some light modding to it.

That and the WRX is practical for my needs and if I ever end up with a family I wont have to get rid of it.

Is it NOT that practical, then, since you'll be seedless?

I like my freedom and money, too. That's why I got a WRX Limited sedan. If I were practical I would've got the hatch!

Its practical in the sense that the woman can have the grocery getter. My car is for the family outings

But for now I am not interested in being tied down or starting a family but I do plan on keeping the car long enough that it will see the day I do have a family of my own and onward.

If I wanted an ugly car I would buy a hatch. Honestly looks matter to me and the hatch just looks gross. I am all for nice asses but not a fan of assback syndrome lol.

The only hatch models I enjoy are slanted hatches. EX: 240SX, RX7, Supra, Celica GT4, you get the picture.

Totally agree... looks like they sourced the mirrors from a F-150.

Waiting to get a look at the Toyaru.

Hatch looks like a Mazda 3, and I hate Mazda 3's..
If they jump to this body style for the WRX/STi, I don't know what I will think.

I think the '11 WRX/STIs just increased in value. IMHO, the styling of the '12s is kind of fugly.

I would like to remind you all that starting model year 2012 the impreza and the wrx/sti will be completely different cars. They will no longer share the same body platform.

1.) There will not be a Impreza turbo model. The Impreza will be the econobox model with an optional premium package. 36mpg with cvt.

2.) The 2012 WRX/STI is confirmed to be no different than the 2011 WRX/STI and will not change until they release the next model of the car.

3.) The WRX/STI will get a complete redesign and will be more designed towards competing in WRC and follow its newer standards.
Japanese versions will be using a 1.6T while american versions will be using a 2.0T. It will most likely be smaller as well. Subaru has already mentioned they will be taking part in WRC again shortly.

So I am looking forward to being able to purchase the car I want vs that weak sauce new impreza coming out.

If I cant get the car I want then I will wait for the new toyobaru and go back to my RWD toyota roots sort of. With the money saved I will probably find a clean MR shell to build up as well haha.

In regards to previous statements on what package and options I should get on a 2012 I am sticking to my choices of what I want on the car. Unfortunately its gonna be a while before it gets here after ordering.
