Default Shocks/Struts might be blown for 02 RS?

Hi...it just started recently. Whenever my car goes over a bump/pothole, there is a squeaking sound coming from the right side (I am pretty sure it is the passenger rear side). My guess my shock might be going bad...but my car only has 17k miles and everything is STOCK.

Can the terrible roads in NYC be this detrimental to a car's shock in only 17k miles/8 months???

If the shock is bad, is that covered under the 3yr/36k miles warranty or is it considered a wear/tear item?

Thanks

Only one way to find out. Bring it into the dealer for some warranty repair.

Just make sure the guy lets you know if it is warranty work, BEFORE he does anything. If they want to do an exploratory, just be aware that if they determine that it is not covered after the exploratory is done, you will be billed for 6hours under regular rates ($75/hr).

Generally speaking, NYC garages are very bad. Basically, once they have your keys, they can charge certain "standardized fees" for whatever they want, and you will pay just to get your car back.

Don't know if the suspension is covered under the bumper to bumper warranty. Chances are, it is a wear item and not covered.

Do yourself a favor, call Dave Brown (Head mechanic) at Metric Subaru in Huntington L.I. . 631-499-6777

His service dept should be able to tell you if the suspension is covered under warranty. He might even be able to tell you what the noise is just by your description.

These guys are honest and will take care of you and your car.

Push down on the corner you think is bad. If the car pops up and bounces around, it's blown. If the car pops up and just stops in place, it's fine.

guys

I took my car to service on friday. They took a ride in the car and heard the sound. It turns out I do have a blown/bad right rear shock. It is under warranty

Instead of figuring out which part of the strut assembly is wrong, they will order a whole one and replace it for no charge. I guess struts is not a wear-tear item

Anyway, I did not buy my car from this dealership but their service has been top nutch! They are Port Motors Subaru in Roslyn NY. Thumbs up!

Yesiu: Thanks for the offer. I will think about it cuz if one goes bad, what's to say the other 3 wont go bad after the 3yr/36k miles....
