Apparantly Paul and I did not get the memo....
I don't know what is happening elsewhere but in the SE gone are the days of 5+ Subaru's at a DE. By now we are lucky to see a nOOb WRX driver and usually we see at least 2-3 fast EVO's who don't even have to hit the BOV to rub it in.
Well Paul and I are going to turn back the clock this weekend at Road Atlanta and with quite the unlikely combination. Paul has his 2006 FXT that is about as street - modded as it can be. -4EAT/VF48 + Tune/CO's, Hankkok RS3/sway bars/rear adj links and more. And I have a 2001 RSti/30R ATP/pretty much fully built STi swap as well so we will see what we can do against the Vette's and P-cars at Chin/RA. Most likely we'll give a lot of point by's! We usually see at least 1 good Subie in ATL when we go - a white 2005 STi iirc. Unfortunately the weather looks good!

Because older ones break, and newer ones.... also break, more frequently, when pushed to the limit on a track.

My goal is to get somewhere close to Paul's car. One thing is holding me back. $$$$$$$$. I still need to come up to the shop (KNS Breaks) and get some upgrades if I want to see some track time in the near future.
Also looking for a spare set of wheels. Would like the stock specs 18*8.5, 5*114.3 bolt, +55 |

Awesome weekend at RA.
And no broken cars. Skeen drove my car and showed me what I cannot do. -Ken |

The GC is more for fun - the C5 is what I drive most on track.

I've been talking to those guys as much as possible.
And riding w/ Skeen was like 'omfg...really?!?!' There are some fast boys down Road Atlanta way in both C5's and Shariff's GTR guys. I am still a good bit behind but I have a goal now. The car is reasonably stable and I have a much better plan. |

Mach V has a great deal on some new wheels. You can get them through Ken as well.
We might have a used set of 18x?? 5x114 laying around to sell. Keep the mods to brakes, suspension, cooling, oiling, safety and up to stage II power. If you want to go further than that I might be willing to swap mine for your 2010 STI. Feel free to go by KNS and check out the cars! Ninja and RSTi were fun at RA. I'm buying a Spec E30 this weekend and will start racing very, very soon! I can't wait. |

Yep, the good old days of multiple Subies at a DE are gone. I expect the decline to continue as Subaru continues to spit in the faces of driving enthusiasts. But, there will be plenty of Subarus at Tree Hugging and GLBT events.

There's still a few of us heading to the track... I know of 2 guys with 90% track Subies, and me and a friend of mine go whenever we can. He has a white 06 WRX wagon with a VF39 and a built 5-speed.

I'm curious what all the breakage talk is about? Except for engine failure at even moderate power levels, which is alarmingly consistent and a legitimate point of concern, the rest - drivetrain, brakes, suspension, seem like either normal consumables or hardware with known, common upgrade paths.
I am new to Subarus but what I've seen so far working on them, they are great for year round daily driving and casual trackday use on relatively narrow tires. Of course for a dedicated track car on wide sticky rubber something approximating an old GT1 car would be much faster, bulletproof, cheaper, but definitely not a daily driver. Legitimately curious about the 'breakage' phenomona, as I am putting together a Forester for just such daily/trackday duties. |

I'm hoping to buy a Spec E30 this weekend. Comp school and wheel2wheel racing very soon! It's going to be great to be in a field of 20+ other E30s at every event.
I'm looking for an 08+ STI donor engine/car to get my STI running again. It will be rebuilt as Stage II (no more than 300 WHP) and might see some track time at events where other Subaru's are in attendance. My 06 Forester is very reliable on the track. Stock long block, stage 2 tuned. ~250WHP VF48, exhaust, & AVO Intercoooler. Moroso baffled oil pan and AOS for safety. I still have cooling issues after a few hard laps and have to back off. The 2008 and 2010 long blocks are both trashed.

My '06 STI has seen many, many track miles with very little issues. Few small things (some my fault, some crap parts *cough* Grimmspeed AOS *cough*) here and there, but mostly very reliable. Finally started having overheating issues due to head gasket leak (I'm surprised it lasted this long), and it's currently being rebuilt. Keeping things pretty much the same, with a few small tweaks for reliability.
ARP head studs Stock head gaskets Killer B oil pickup and oil baffle TGV deletes Timing belt and pulleys ACT clutch and flywheel New water pump Upgrade to '08+ oil pump Water + Water Wetter + Subaru coolant additive 75W140 trans oil Samco radiator hoses Various other gaskets and seals that are needed, or are easily replaced while it's apart. Conservative tune around 300WHP. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things, but this should be good for another 5 years of track days. Will you guys be at the TrackDaze event @ VIR Nov 13-14? |

I think I have actually seen more Subaru's at NASA/HPDE weekends this year than any year previous. I don't know what that means for us up here (lack of willingness to give in probably), but it's fun regardless.
