Default EMCO Gears for Subaru 5MT Dogbox/Syncro'd sets

Development has begun.

I have a list for potential buyers for the syncro'd sets on post #68 PM me and I'll add you to the list.

These syncro'd sets along with the dogboxes are going to be a hybrid style design. Larger input/output shafts, spur gears along with helical gear incorporated, materials, hardening processes, ect, ect is what these are all about. A complete redesign!

The list for the dogbox is on post #69 PM me and I'll add you to the list.

Once we fill up the spots I will open up a group buy with special introductory pricing. This of course is after the final ratios have been agreed on and everyone is up to speed.

If you are looking for a motorsport oriented transmission the dogbox is the route you want to go.

The Syncro'd gear box is for those who wish to upgrade to a transmission that will handle whatever you throw at it, but, but, issues at high RPM with lock out will still exist.

Please read through the thread for info, if there is a question you have that has not been answered in any of the posts, please PM me and I will be happy to go over the question with you, if I don't know the answer off the bat I will find out for you.

With the upgraded gear sets, installation services will be available through the few vendors that are authorized to sell the EMCO product.

I will also offer on top of installation, upgraded differentials, as well as custom powder coated cases for those who wish to bling out their transmission!

I will also be able to tap the trans for temp sensors and such so please, if you have a question either post up or PM.

Thanks for looking!!

What kind of ratios you looking at for the Road/track? I would assume that the dogbox gears are long and the road/track gears are short? Also what kind of holding power are these going to be expected to hold?

4.44:1 would be sweet for road/track

Better than PPG's? cause they are proven and just as much or for that much Sti tranny swap. i think the 3-4k dollar range is better

What's the install like.Does it require shims more then just oem setup. IE does it need you to install them? Are replacement parts expensive?

I feel like you would get better input on this if you moved it to the vendor announcements, or even the transmission forum, rather than the group buy section

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, I'll take care of it tomorrow. We're full steam ahead on this so I need some input from potential customers.

the jump from 4th to 5th is too big. stock 5th is fine, just stretch the 1-2-3-4 out like they did in the 6 speed in 2006+.

When we come up with some preliminary ratios, I'll post and update, I honestly think we're going to work on a road race box first.

Actually yeah, we have talked about a hybrid style gear box.

I should have more info after the first of the year.

That would be outstanding. I love the strength of a straight cut but hate the whine. It'd be nice on the low end but would prefer not to hear it up top.

Interested in this too. Beat out PPG and PAR by a decent amount and you'll own the 5MT market

Cost has not really been discussed much. Some numbers thrown out, but until we have a complete break down of what will be replaced in the 5MT gear box, I can't say. My goal with this project is going to be, to make it competitive with PPG and some of the other quality gear manufactures.

After talking with the ME, input, output shafts will be replaced along with bearings and selector forks among other internals.

If you have ever seen EMCO products in action they are nothing but amazing. I was at the EMCO Gears Classic @ Mid-Ohio this year and watched their customer "Daytona Dream" DP take 1st

Here's a pic of the winner I took during the fan walk

Ideally, the road race box would have a taller first so that you can keep the ratios in 2-5 closer.

Kudos on getting EMCO on board!!! I tried getting them to play ball on a small project I want to do here, but couldn't make it happen.

Hey Phil,

Was thinking about this more today, as I have a car in need of a trans and the weight savings of the 5-spd is strategic.
What ball park pricing do you have in mind for these? If you want to PM me about it, I completely understand, being a vendor too, but please PM me at the 3MI Racing account above (purposely full on this account).

Thanks,
Micah

P.S. I have the mother load of gear ratio spreadsheets from when I started hunting down the gearset I wanted, before talking with PAR about custom ratios. It has pretty much every aftermarket gearset (5 and 6 spd) on it.

Yup, things are happening. I'm actually working another spreadsheet for Phil right now. Well taking a break but fuzzy little details

I already gave him everyone's drag ratios.
