AutoCAD is great, I don't get why people complain about it. Back in college I interned at Boeing and they used AutoCAD and solid works. AutoCAD is incredibly easy to use if you take the time to learn it

Idk for sure but anyone doing anything with airplanes is using catia now. I think it was boewing that built a plane that never once went into a wind tunnel using catia and flew 0 problems first try. Thats how good that program is.

I saw the new wing design, it was very impressive. I haven't messed with AutoCAD in a while (I don't use my degree) but I imagine a more advanced system was necessary. |

Used autocad in college and some in my first few jobs(EE) meh. last job they asked me to do some fluids based design work (oil field) and turns out I am a pretty good ME. Taught myself to use SW (and Camworks) on their dime then bought some machinery and started a biz designing and machining high pressure sour service fittings. Win. Ive been using SW since 09 and love it. I start designing and hours just fly by. Cool thing with 3d modeling, especially when using an integrated cam suite is, you can design a part in the moring, send it to your cnc and have the EXACT part in your hands by the end of the day.
I plan on making some stuff for the GR this fall when biz slows down. Im open to requests lol. |

Soemtimes I hate...
...when customers come in on a holiday weekend, for service, and cause a scene just to get everything for free. As I am typing this there is a customer up front in the service lane going to the ends of the world to get a loaner car for the 3 day weekend because she's going on a road trip.
She swears up and down that her MY 2010 GLK350 is having issues. I pulled the car in and there are no codes. I did guided tests for the key transmitter and drive authorization system. The CAN system says everything is good to go. Lol @ the advisor when he tried giving her vehicle back to her. You just opened a can of worms there buddy Any body else on here work for a mercedes dealership? Or any other luxury vehicle techs for that matter? |

I refinish wheels on everything from hondas to R8's.
It's always the owners of the nice cars that seem like they were hit in the head with a trash can as a child... They want impossible things now! Because they think it's owed to them for some unexplained cosmic reason. |

^^^Yes. They act like the world revolves around them. I don't think I could refinish wheels or do body work. The complainers that come in for service are bad enough as it is! In fact, I bet they don't realize that we can help them easier and do our jobs better if they could just be honest and stay calm.

Not everybody acts like the spawn of satan lol. that's cool though, at the nissan dealership i used to work at customers would bring cookies, fudge, etc. I like to think I'm helping the customers the best that I can to my abilities. Being a tech at the dealership we're pretty much treated like peasants and scum. But I know I can do little things here and there to help like correct diagnosis, proper repairs, hell! even wiping off the engine cover or wiping the star on the hood with a microfiber after I'm done working on it.
I think people forget we're humans and that with the volume of work we have to do on a daily basis we are bound to screw up at least once. But we aim for quality yet! |

I'm a luxury car body man. We do have people that do some crazy things. The worst part is they don't pay attention to their car as close until its wrecked. They will scrutinize that part of the car that was wrecked until they are blind. Then they'll complain that other parts of the car weren't like that before the accident. I happens a bunch but its part of the job. Good part now is I have to same goggles on when I look at the cars. I exactly know what to look for before it gets to the customer.
The best customer I can think of is a customer doing the ball bearing gap test. He saw it on a Lexus commercial so it has to be true. Said commercial: |

I see tons of dumb **** by customers. The most recent was a customer with a 12' or 13' wrx with 5k on it. He came in with a flat tire and the spare was on there. We were doing an inspection with one tire. There was also a complaint that the rear driver side piller was falling off and that there was a rattle from the back.
I run my emissions on the car and bang out the tire real quick. So I look at the plastic trim piece that is pulled away. It's missing a green clip and the other one is still clipped in and the part it slides into is broken. So obviously someone yanked at it hard and the guy tried to pass it off as it just falling. Next is the rattle. Rattles happen so it's nothing new. Take it for a spin and I didn't really hear anything. Pulled back in my bay to check it out farther and to put the spare back in the car since I forgot. Guy is missing his trunk lining and there was an amp mounted to his seat. Then I followed a wire which went to obviously where his sub woofer was sitting. I figure for ****s and giggles I'll throw in one of his cd's since we don't get reception in the shop to see if maybe it's a rattle from the radio. Even without the subs in it still was loud and the cd I put in was a bass cd. Seriously dude you're rocking a pretty decent system and I'm sure with the subs it's loud as hell and you're complaining about rattles? Dynomat that car or whatever it is kids do now a days. It's bad enough the car can develop rattles but add a loud system you're asking for tons to pop up. Best is he was rocking a nasioc sticker. lol |

Here is what happens when you give a 16 year old a STI
We did a timing belt replacement on it, fluid changes, all 100K maint, and a new performance clutch he supplied since he destroyed the stock one (STG 3 - STI 2.5L HYPER SINGL EX-FH02SD). His cooling fans a 1000 miles later quit because his radiator was leaking on them so he severely overheated it. He told us at the time it barley overheated. Well we replaced the fans and the radiator and now 4,000 miles after the work it has been towed in because the headgaskets have failed. This is what we have found so far. The gates racing timing belt started to melt because of it being overheated so bad The clutch is almost worn out already |

I wish people would stop putting the Gates Racing belts in street cars. Theyre designed for short term high-RPM use. Not longevity.
The blue crap on the pulleys is actually normal, Ive seen it on motors that havent overheated. |
