I know all about high power V8 Mustangs... But I seem to recall that the 370Z, which is about the same size as the Mustang, has a curb weight of about 250 to 300lbs less than the Mustang.

Ummm.... no, in many regards. 370z is only 170lbs lighter, being 4" shorter in height, 20 INCHES shorter in length, and only an inch thinner.

--- 370Z ---
Weight: 3329lbs
Height: 51.8 in
Length: 167.1 in
Width: 72.6 in

--- Mustang ---
Weight: 3501lbs
Height: 55.6 in
Length: 188.5 in
Width: 73.9 in

IMHO, both cars are overweight, with the 370Z being moreso, for its size.

As much as I like the Aston corporate front end look...don't think it fits on the front of a Mustang.

I think the actual production version will be slightly different where the headlights meet the front bumper

I'm willing to bet the lower line of the front grill (where the mustang emblem is) will lead directly into the headlight.... They might be thinner headlights like the render (many automakers are going towards thinner headlights) but they will sit on the same "plane" as the front grill. Right now the render has them sitting up too high and separated...

There ya go! Plus a 370z isn't an american muscle v8, like I said in my post. I am pretty confident that power wise, the 5.0 would analrape the 370z. That 170lb difference can be directly attributed to the size difference. Also, look in my eariler post. I said something along the lines of "and if they could keep the backseat". Last time I checked, the 370z has no backseat.

And on that note, as much as I like the Aston corporate front end look, I think every other front end designed by Fisker on a non-Aston car has looked like crap.

I definitely like the looks, so my concerns at this point are weight and engine options. With a modern look like that, I wouldn't feel weird about having a V6 exhaust note, which is how I feel about the current Mustang body; it looks a little too muscular for its V6 exhaust note (obviously only applies to the V6 model). So I would be all set for a 2015 V6 and a Track Pack (if they offered it) would be my only option ordered. However, if they replace the 3.7L V6 with an EcoBoost 4-cyl, I might not be okay with that, since I want a little more "grunt" out the exhaust of a Mustang than a 4-cyl can give me.

On to weight; the 2013 V6 weighs 3,500lbs. I wonder how much they can drop it for the new model. Obviously 3,300lbs for the V6 would be great, but I wonder if it's even possible with today's standards. Either way, I think I would be satisfied with a Mustang that looks like the rendering above, with the current (or a slight bump in hp) V6 with the Track Pack weighing in at 3,300lbs.

The EcoBoost V6 replacing with N/A V6 wouldn't bother me as long as all the bugs are worked out of the EcoBoost motors. I have't done much research into it, but I remember hearing a few horror stories.

I am looking forward to seeing what the next gen mustang will look like. I currently like the new refresh of the 2013, but unfortunately it's best I stay out of the new car market for at least another year or two. At least from a financial perspective. While i could afford it and still have a little money left over on a loan for a Premium Mustang GT with Brembo Brakes/Glass roof (just under 40k msrp...ouch!) I would feel way too strapped for cash and would totally stress me out.

We'll see what's out when I decide to be back in the market for a car. Here's to hoping the rotary 16x makes it's way into fruition in a model similarly sized to the rx8. While I still like the BRZ, it's just too small if a car for me now as a DD. The and the dimensions of the mustang are also a little too big for my liking, let alone the price.

Ford doesn't make a V6 Ecoboost with only 300 hp. Mine has 365, and if they dropped it in the Mustang, I'd hope they would get at least 400 hp and near 500 ft-lbs out of it.

That would make for a fun Mustang.

No AWD. Adds weight, decreases handling (by adding understeer). IRS is all they need, considering a Boss 302 with its mild engine and suspension tweaks can best an M3 around Laguna Seca, just imagine what they could do with IRS and its naturally better handling dynamics.

They would only be doing that if they were dropping the V8 for some reason. Considering how much time and money are in the Coyote, how long it's been on the market, and how relatively future-proof it is (it's already direct-injection ready), I don't see them replacing the 5.0 in the Mustang with an Ecoboost 6 any time soon.

I could see them doing three levels, an Ecoboost 4 "Eco" model to compete with the sportier Eco friendly market, bumping the current V6 by a few horsepower to make a mid-range "budget racer" and then the V8 GT top-end. Dump the GT500 in favor of making a proper Corvette/Viper beating Halo with a more competitive price than the Ford GT had.

Ford is pushing Eco-boost which is a good thing since fuel economy is becoming bigger and bigger. I hope the Fusion GT will come to fruition?!

It looks like a BRZ had a three way with a newer charger and GT500.

I really like this alot. It looks right in that it has some retro keeping some mustang heritage.

I also don't see how it's not possible to lose even more weight. A current WRX weighs 3,142 with a manual, 4/5 door, and AWD. Honestly I can see a mustang weighing 3200 pretty easily with a Ecoboost 4. Cmon it's RWD, 2 door and shorter wheelbase. There's no reason for it to weigh what it does when a WRX weighs hundreds less.

I could see them doing at least 3 trims. Standard base mustang with a Ecoboost 4 cylinder, GT with Ecoboost 6 and whatever name for a V8. They are going to have to make some kind of affordable V8 trim for those purists that don't have $50k to drop on a GT500.

Ford is doing IMO too good of a job with these engine outputs. They really should focus more on keeping the weight down rather then getting more horse at this point. When you can buy a 6xxhp factory car for $50k, that's just retarded.

I'd like to see them offer these engines:

Entry/economy model: EcoBoost 4-cyl (270bhp)
V6 model: add DI to the current V6 or do an EcoBoost V6 (both around the 350bhp)
GT: add DI to the current 5.0L (around 450bhp)

That engine lineup, with a 200lb weight loss across the board would be nice (even more weight loss would be nice, but I'm being realistic).

I couldn't care less what they do with the GT500 as it is well out of my price range.

All Ford needs to do is just take the existing engine line-up and plop it in a lighter, more modern package with IRS. The existing Mustang is a very good car just needs to be more svelte and modern.

Ford already promised that.. at least 200lb off I hear..
Lambo uses exotic materials like CF body and exotic drivetrains for keep the weight low.. Impossible with Mustang.
