Our course was finally set to open tomorrow ... had my tee time for 10:50am, and a time for Friday and Saturday. Couldn't be more excited ... so of course that means that our idiotic government is putting in place another ****ing stay at home lock down for 4 weeks.

Just about everything is closed down again ... except the factories, amazon distribution centers and other places where the virus is spreading. Absolutely idiotic. Vaccines aee being distributed at a snail pace and just about every small business is on the verge of collapse. This ****ing sucks so much

That effing suuuuuucks. I haven't heard anyone getting Covid from golfing. I am sure there have been a few cases, but the fact that schools are open and other "spreader" activities/gatherings are legal, golf is safe. It's also 65-70 degrees here, so I am sure that helps.

That's pretty cool. I'm just trying to get tickets again. 20 years and counting and no luck in the lottery, but I went to round 3 in '01.

I have 2 TVs set up in my office to watch the next couple of days. So excited.

My picks would be JT, DJ and Spieth. There are so many guys I think will be strong this week though, including Rahm, Morikawa, Cantlay and Zalatoris. Hard to pick just a few.

Played a new course in Solvang, CA. River Course at Alisal. Course conditions and layout was really nice. I was doing alright until the wind picked up and was a constant 20 MPH with plenty of 30 MPH gusts. I can't drive with the ball teed low (intentionally anyway) so it was super frustrating. I did manage a birdie on a par 5 and had a blast with my brothers and cousin. Looking forward to getting those lessons here soon. I kind of know what I am doing wrong with my backswing but need some instruction.

That course looks amazing. Bet it was a blast. What were you doing way up in Solvang though?

I got another round out at Marshall Canyon yesterday with my buddy who got me into golf. Ended up beating him by 2 points. I pulled out a 44/49 which is my best score here so far. Made par on hole 12 that always give me trouble so I was very pleased with that. Lost 2 balls this round and had some issues here and there getting clean strikes so lost a few strokes there as well. Otherwise putting was pretty good and I made some clutch putts for par, barely missed a nice 25 footer for birdie too, but got that tap in.
Really need to practice more, gonna start trying to hit the range once a week or get out for a round every other week. Last I played was a month ago with my FIL and I shot 95. Prior to that I hadn't played in over 3 months.

My brother who lives in Paso Robles drove to Encinitas about a month ago, so we owed him a drive up his way. I ended up staying in LA on Friday night at my brother's guest house and then we drove to Solvang in the morning. It was a nice drive minus the LA traffic. That was the first time I have slept in another bed in like 13 months, so it was also fun being outside of my house for that long. I highly recommend the River Course since it's pretty forgiving but also has some challenges. However, I would imagine it's going to be hot AF soon, so play there as soon as you can if you are interested.

Nice work on your round! Let's play somewhere soon.

It was sooooooo close to being an amazing finish yesterday until that tee shot on 16. Wow, what a mistake. The course looked awful. Brown greens and painted fairways. But at least the azaleas were in bloom!

I am struggling with pushing/cutting/slicing the ball right now. It's bad, but not unlike about this time last year. That worked itself out over time, but I found some impact drills to work on that I am going to do this week at the before playing again next weekend.
Gotta love this game. You never know what swing you'll have from one day to the next.

Yep, had a perfect warmup on the range and just lost it on the course. I thought I was bringing my club back too low on my longer clubs and my brother confirmed my suspicions. Gonna use the Tour Striker Planemate I bought last year and see if that helps.

I played The Links at Rolling Hills Casino in Corning, CA yesterday. John Daly Signature course. 8am tee time, and by the 3rd hole it was blowing a steady 25mph, with 40mph gusts. Downwind I was hitting drives of 287, 284, and 278yds. I reached a 580yd par 5 in two, with a massive wind-aided 3-wood that carried about 250 and just kept rolling.

Then the next hole was directly into wind, where I proceeded to hit a 208yd drive, a 3-wood that traveled only 174, then another 3 wood into the green. After that I started playing little punchy 4-irons off the tee into the wind, so at least they would roll-out on the fast fairways.

Shot 80. A couple of long 600+yd par 5s killed me (those weren't even the back tees) but I actually got two birdies on par 4s.

Still looking for wife clubs and kinda unsure what to get. Too many choices.

If you were going up to $500 for a set what would you get (I.e. if you’re bored at work and want to spend my money go for it)

Ideally we’d have a full set of driver/woods, irons, wedges. We can grab a putter she likes locally and a bag.

Get something like this. Hybrids will be her friend. Irons will probably not be as forgiving.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Adams-Idea-...8AAOSwSMZge72D

I am sure there are larger sets with more clubs from Adams, but they are some of the best in ladies clubs for the money and most of the used sets are in great condition.

For lack of a longer description, I've really been working on getting my arms and hands more like Dustin Johnson's in my backswing with great results on my entire bag. My distance is improving and I'm compressing the ball with my irons. If I can get through the next few weeks of dialing this new swing in, I won't need to take more lessons. It's been a struggle figuring this out but my brother pointed out my flaws last time we played and his advice helped big time. I just need to not overdo the practices since my hammies got super tight last week to where my lower back and glutes were too sore to practice.

I've played a lot the last 6 days, with an 85, 83 ,87 and 91 to show for it. Last night was a mess and if not for getting up and down a bunch and making some long putts, it easily could have been closer to 100. I hit very few shots straight with several shanks and banana slices. It was awful. I have no idea what's going on and am too frustrated to try to fix it at the range. Plus I am not sure my back could handle it right now. I am playing in an opening day step-aside scramble on Saturday and have a lesson next Tuesday to try to fix this.

It sounds like you are doing exactly what I was doing over the winter and into Spring. What has helped my shanking is to have a more vertical takeaway versus coming around my body to start the swing. I hit a bucket yesterday and only a couple of shanks when I started my backswing by keeping the club low and inside. I am also turning my lead shoulder towards the target a little more which helps me compress down on the ball and not slice. Try it out and I hope you break the terrible cycle.

I'm taking off early today to practice a little and then play the local exec. Hoping the work will pay off.

Basically what I am referring to with how I improved my swing and helped reduce the shanking/slicing.

One of the things I miss most about not playing golf. The scenery can be downright beautiful on some courses.

I've accepted my inner LPGA player skill level, and I'm trying out a 9-wood. Mavrik Max, which is 23 degrees, fairly big of head, and has some heal biased weighting. I haven't carried a hybrid for a while, so I figured why not go to the extreme end of the spectrum.

I've been playing courses with a lot of par 4 holes that leave me 170-180 out on the approach, and the greens have been very firm. So my usual 5-iron shots just aren't sticking, and often running off the back. Or I'm thinning them off the hard tight lie that is a burnt out fairway.

So I thought I would try something that would pick clean off hard tight lies and get up in the air. I even went with a ladies flex shaft, since I'm not a fast swinger and this isn't a club I'm going to try and wail on.

I'll report next week, after I play several new courses since I'll be travelling for work. Could even be a good solution for longer Par 3 holes.

Swing is coming along pretty well. I had a good weekend of practice and play. I was hitting my 5 iron at the range fairly consistently which felt great. 11 over at the exec on Saturday and got up and down pretty well. Had a fun bogey where I missed the green with a pull, bladed the chip, ran the next chip off the green and then sunk a 20 foot putt from off the fringe. Pulled the next tee shot and got up and down for par from the sand. I gotta work on syncing up my downswing so I don't get my arms ahead of my hips, but other than that, making good contact and looking forward to the Summer. So fun going from shanking to pulling but a long pull is better than a short shank, so I'll take it.

Rumor has it that they may open golf in Ontario this Friday instead of May 10 which was the original intention ... this also includes basketball, volleyball, tennis and pickleball (whatever that is). I think the city is on the edge of revolt at this point.

That feeling when you post a score and it gets flagged and "soft capped" because your index would go a full 3 strokes higher than your lowest for the previous 12 months. I guess that keeps people from intentionally raising their index. Thanks for that GHIN, but no, I genuinely really suck this spring.

haha I've had a pretty frustrating start to my year as well. I've been all over the place. My first 6 or so rounds of the year were uninspiring and were all played at 3-5 strokes above my average score. Then my buddy came into town for 3 rounds of pretty high stakes game (we had around $500 on the line) and I managed to figure it all out that weekend to post 3 rounds in the mid 70's.

Then I lost it again for the next 2 rounds.

Yesterday was a perfect microcosm of my season so far. Was super sloppy for my first 11 holes and hitting it like trash... Was +13 through 11 with literally just 1 good shot.

I then birdied 4 of the final 7 and did it while looking like a tour player LOL Shaping drives both ways, throwing darts into tucked pins and draining the putts. I even parred 18 with a penalty stroke when my drive went through the fairway by a foot and ended up in a bush... so I basically birdied the hole if you take out that bad break. I just don't get my golf game right now.

I’m so jealous reading this thread ... I was able to play on our sim today and posted by best ever round. Everything was dialed in and working perfectly for me.

I need to get out on the course again ... if they don’t end up opening it this weekend, I’m going to lose my mind. Hah
