If I want an aftermarket china headunit, get a powerpack type amp. Still ~500 less than a "reputable" company, but with full android. newer HU models (than justduff's OP) seem to have better hardware, but seem likely to have comparable/lower quality sound than most OEM systems. Even the new Subispeed one it essentially calls out it doesnt have enough power to run an HK system. Sound like an amp is req'd for these. I'd love to hear from some of the newer-gen adopters and what you got (from where), what model/year, what extra goodies you got, and your comparison of sound vs OEM. I'll post up mine when I eventually go this route. |

![]() Some interesting keypoints
"We have confirmed that 2015 AC vents do not work with the unit. For those who have a 2015 model, please purchase the appropriate AC vents to ensure proper fit. AC vents are NOT included." Justduff was able to with some modifcations "NOTE: Harmon Kardon equipped vehicles may have distortion issues / operating issues. For those installing aftermarket amplifiers and subwoofers to the vehicle at the same time, these issues do not apply. Works with base stereo system without modification." "Supplied radio harness is a direct fit for 2015 WRXs originally equipped with a standard radio. Other vehicles will require pigtail connections." ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() Im interested in this headunit but I have the harman/kardon package so hoping there is a fix without changing amps/speakers.
As others has stated there might be issues with the harman/kardon package, do the things SVXdc list fix those issues or is there still problems with it? |

![]() Hmmm, no spec on the preamps, that would worry me. Probably 2v. I love the idea but the quality of the DAC worries me about these units. Sound quality may not be up to par. Curious to hear feedback.

![]() i add an Alpine ktp-445u with this setup and it sounds really good, but if I would have had the Harman kardon package in a 2016+ I would keep it .

![]() According to what I found, it's using a Toshiba 7384 amplifier.

That being said, with 2V preamps and no published S/N ratio, I wouldn't expect hifi audio from this unit. From the numbers that Rausstek posted, if it really does have 10% THD at 1KHz, that would be horrible. I suspect that number is a typo. For reference, my Kenwood lists 0.01% THD at 1KHz. That number can't be true. The speaker level outs seem on par with any other unit, probably a modest improvement over stock. I love the Android idea, but as usual, the hardware seems not up for serious audio. So far, Workshop 12 had the best unit going for them but they stopped the development due lack of funding. ![]() Does anyone have the specs somewhere of the 7.0 Starlink HU that comes with the H/K package to be able to compare them?

![]() Anyone do an install in the newer 2016/2017 STI base? This would be a great option to skip the H/K package and get better maps via Google. I'm getting a 2017 base in December so I'm hoping I can pick this up, wire it in and skip mounting my phone to the dash.

![]() I took a peak at the data sheet for the amp. Assuming the amp inside is what they say it is. no one has done a tear down have they?
I think we have been looking at the wrong amp! The androids on aliexspress and ebay are using a T 7580 http://bit.ly/2dAWLPh Heres the data sheet http://www.datasheetarchive.com/dlma...f07b/M/TDA7850 Keep in mind that THD is a non-standardized specification and the results between manufacturers are not easily comparable. I think industry standard is <1% It looks to me that their is less than .02% THD in everything less that 1khz. Anyone else have input? but if you use a external amp and bypass the speaker level inputs on this unit your signal should be pretty clean right? Last edited by 2017wrx; 10-24-2016 at 04:03 AM. |

![]() I know nnotorious9i6 just installed his with an HK system and hasnt reported an issues upon install.
If theres sound quality issues, is there a potential work around? I dont mind spending more on an amp or other equipment to make it compatible. I definitly dont want to install and end up with worse sound quality lol |

![]() So from what im gathering, the Hu will be easier to work with a 15 wrx HK system than a 16+ due to how the radio outputs to the amp?

When the engine is on, there is a some hiss/static. It doesn't increase with rpm from what i can tell. If i increase the volume of the head unit, the hiss/static remains the same volume. If i am listening to music at my usual volume, and driving, it pretty much drowns it out. I am thoroughly testing everything before i post my install, review video. I would like to tell you guys that the Armrest usb/aux is working. Steering wheel controls are working, radio, gps, and wifi are working. I am going to take a closer look at it tomorrow. |
