Default Datsun On-Do Small Sedan Reveale

LOL

Quote:
Nissan’s budget-focused Datsun arm has pulled the wraps from its third new production model, revealing the On-Do sedan in Moscow this week.
Destined for Russia, where it will be Datsun’s first offering in that market, the On-Do builds on the look and technologies of the existing Datsun Go models.
In Russia, the On-Do will be priced at around 400,000 Rubles, or around $12,000 Australian dollars.

The main objective (in Russia) is to be a serious alternative to the used car market - this is where we want to compete," Jerome Saigot, director of Datsun in Russia, told reporters in Moscow.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn was also on hand for the new sedan’s unveiling, describing the On-Do as an important addition to the existing Nissan range in Russia.
"Today, Russia is our company's 5th largest market in the world. In the next three years, we are aiming to triple our sales here - with the goal of doubling market share. And we expect the Datsun brand to contribute as much as one third of total sales,” Ghosn said.
“By drawing on our company's 80 years of manufacturing and technical expertise - and by leveraging the engineering skills, market knowledge, and production capabilities of our Alliance partner, AVTOVAZ - we will deliver a Datsun line-up for the 21st century. And these cars will be fully in touch with the needs and preferences of Russian drivers".

Measuring 4337mm long, the On-Do is a little shorter than the likes of the Toyota Corolla and Mazda3, but noticeably longer than the smaller Toyota Yaris and Mazda2 offerings.
Likewise, the On-Do is noteably larger than the already revealed Go hatch, which measures just 3785mm long.
Power in the On-Do is provided by a 65kW 1.6 litre petrol engine, compared to the 1.2 litre engine offered with the smaller Go hatch.
The On-Do will be built in Russia, alongside Lada’s Granta sedan, at the Avtovaz plant in Tolyatti.

Jeez you guys are tough.

It's a new car that is being sold to compete with used cars. You're not getting Aston Martin looks in a car that is supposed to be basic transportation for 4 - 26 adults.

I'm not a fan of the back, but at just over $10K, I don't think it looks all that bad. Agreed about the grill though. Too many companies with a similar look.

they are basically making a really cheap cars off the old Versa/Note/Micra platforms. what did you expect?

as for the grill, the people who buy these cars have probably never owned a new car in their life. They may have never owned a car in their life up until making such a purchase

Would You Own This Vilner Restomod 1976 Datsun 280Z Fairlady Z?

This is one of the most unique projects to roll out of Vilner Garage, and it harbors an interesting past – living in a convicted war criminal's living room...
In WWII, a German fighter pilot by the name of Erich Hartmann set a record for aerial victories. To this day, his tally remains unchallenged. Nicknamed “Bubi” (The Kid) by comrades and “Black Devil” by his Soviet adversaries, he shot down 352 Allied aircraft. After the war ended, Erich was charged, tried, and convicted of war crimes – spending 10 years in Soviet prison camps as a result.

He was released in 1955, joined the West German Air Force in 1956, retired in 1970, and died of natural causes in 1993. Why are we telling you this? Well, the Hartmann family spent time on American soil and fell in love with a Gold Metallic 1976 Datsun 280Z ‘Fairlady Z’ while exercising their freedom.

Upon returning to Hamburg, the family had the Datsun shipped to, and stored, in Erich's living room; along with parts from a Messershmitt Bf 109 – a German aircraft used in WWII – that was associated with Hartmann's flying days.

Looking to part with the car that had in some way come to the attention of Atanas Vilner of Vilner Garage, the owner had to remove some of the window assembly from his home to get the car out.

With the use of the code art program BASF R-M, Vilner developed a truly unique color scheme and redesign for the car. Featuring LED head and tail lights, LED ‘Z’ badge side indicators, and machined side view mirrors, the exterior is ‘Vilner Cobalt Matt Metallic’ with ‘Vilner Copper Rose’ on the front grill and back side of the car along with the ‘Superlite’ styled wheels.

Removing the front and rear bumpers, Vilner said of the restomod: “I’ve kept the car as close to the original. As my imagination allowed me to do so.” Most of the interior panels were wrapped in Vintage leather or blue felt with matching seatbelts and floor mats. The floor mats are edged in leather and feature metallic ‘Fairlady Z’ lettering and the seats are adorned with the prestigious ’20 years Vilner Studio’ badge.

“To sum up the project with some numbers? It’s impossible,” says Vilner. “The amount of work put into this project is beyond any car done from my team. And I can guarantee that this Datsun 280Z ‘Fairlady Z’ is one of the most unique cars on the planet. Even the asking price of €75k is modest when you consider the amount of work and materials put into this project, not to mention the art work."

Go to Autoblog for all the photos, not sure about that in interior maybe in person shrug..

The only redeeming features about that Datsun is that it looks to have a clean body and frame. Everything else is god awful. Someone save this Datsun.

Default Datsun May Return As A Budget EV Maker

Quote:

It seems the unloved brand hasn't taken its last breath yet.

For those in the States, the name Datsun evokes fond memories of fun-filled and affordable motoring. Legends such as the gorgeous 240Z and sporty 510 sedan brought excitement to the masses and, as such, these and many more are regarded as classics. When Nissan announced the hallowed brand would make a return, many were excited about what the revived marque would bring to the table.

Sadly, what arrived was a lineup of massively disappointing budget cars. Targeting developing markets, they arrived with poor build quality, questionable safety, and not much in the way of a thrilling driving experience. Unfortunately for Datsun, the underwhelming budget buys were launched into a market already bustling with far better cars, such as the Suzuki Swift. After a decade of controversy, Nissan decided to kill the brand for good. Or has it?

According to Automotive News, company insiders have reportedly said that Nissan is still mulling over what to do with the budget car subsidiary; the budget nameplate may return yet again as a budget electric vehicle maker. This does make sense - Nissan and its alliance partners, Renault and Mitsubishi, plan to launch as many as 35 electric vehicles by 2030.

Introducing a budget sub-division focusing on affordable EVs will allow Nissan to target developing markets such as India and South Africa, where electric cars are still the reserve of monied consumers. Renault-owned Dacia has already cornered this market in parts of Europe, selling the equally questionable Spring - a battery-powered hatchback - at a relatively affordable price.

At $27,400 before incentives, the Nissan Leaf is one of the more affordable electric offerings in the USA. Despite the attractive MSRP, it's still out of reach for many - and this is a first-world country. This is only exacerbated in countries with a lower GDP. In South Africa, where the Go is sold, EVs made up not even 0.5% of total vehicle sales in 2021. Rebranding the troubled brand into an affordable electric car company could give Nissan the potential to corner the budget-friendly EV market.

Whether this will pan out remains to be seen but it would make a lot of sense. Of course, retooling Indian factories to produce battery-powered economy hatchbacks could prove expensive and Nissan isn't in a position to be throwing money at new segments. While the Japanese carmaker's financial position has improved in the last few years, we're guessing conservative business decisions are favored over risky moves.

I guess, at this point, the best we can hope for is 510V charging.
