It looks no different than an analog cluster aside from a lack of dimension, so... about the same as any cluster... having one myself, I'm more concerned about reliability of the screen itself and replacement cost target than it "aging".

I looked it up, the complete digital cluster is about $1,200. The mk7 analog cluster is about the same price.

GM is marketing the F out of their new tail gate. I’m sure that marketing will work on many people. They’ll spend thousands and thousands trading in just to get a new tail gate.

That confused me as well. I surmise it might have to do with having safety related lights still work in the event of a failure of the screen.

My point was more that it's not like they're trying to do anything futuristic like the videos posted earlier.

Don't get me wrong though, the digital dash was one of the things that made me hesitant to get the R. I disliked it completely until I started driving with it. If I didn't have the car, I'd probably be saying the same thing as you. But it's proven to be pretty cool.

I like the hybrid route Porsche has taken with their latest clusters. Analog tach in the middle with digital on the sides. In a new vehicle, I'd be fine with the digital. In a used vehicle, I'd be a bit more apprehensive due to the higher risk of failure vs analog. Then again, the tach in my Prelude from back in the day was off by about 800 by the time it reached "6k" RPM, lol.

IMO, I don't feel the infotanment screen is dated. I like the looks of it. If you were to say the 2015, then yes. But I'm quite content with my 2016 R's screen.

On a different note, I really like that they are doing this. I've been eyeing up the B9 S5 SB and I really like the new digital cockpit.

I think their pricing strategy is killing the market. People are perfectly happy keeping their 6s or 7s instead of plunking down $1k for an incrementally upgraded top of the line phone every year.

I don't see the next GTI coming with 300 hp. It's too close to R territory(and S3). My prediction is you'll see a modest bump to 260-270 or so to be on par with the WRX.

^^^ Agreed. Iphone pricing is whats killing them and granted, innovation has slowed but people are always willing to pay for the newest phone if it's within reason. Lets not forget that phones use to be heavily subsidized through providers. Every year or two you could get the new one for $80 plus tax if you renewed your contract for 2 years. That all went away.

Not it didn’t. I just upgraded phones a few months ago and my carrier gave me $450 off the new phone. It’s still there you just have to fight for it via CS and retention. It remains they just don’t advertise it.

To the majority of people, its gone away. Most people don't attempt to haggle with phones just like most people dont try to haggle car sales or leases. If its not being advertised, technically its gone away. Also $450 off of a $800+ phone still doesn't equal paying $80 plus tax for a new iphone with 2 year renewal.

I'm on a corporate phone plan and we still have the 2 year upgrades for like 100 bucks. I upgrade every 2 years.
