That’s terrible. Random Solterra cladding and fog lights. I prefer the look of the CX-50.

The teardrop black portion certainly seems off in proportion to the cladding. Like it’s too much going on between wheel arches and the front fascia.

Now that you mention the CX 50, I get a Volvo vibe from that car that I ain’t mad about.

What's the point of the strip of paint between the "vent" and wheel? At this point they may as well leave it unpainted like the Solterra and Adrenaline concept.

Sheesh, time to overhaul the design team. White is probably the worst color to show the design on, so hopefully the others won't be as bad.

Do the designers just sit around a table and ask what can we do to freshen up the design, and they all shrug and just say why not add plastic cladding all over?

From the side image, with the offroading mud splatter, it looks like they mostly have the cladding (formed into complex asymmetric shapes that you can almost imagine come from computational fluid dynamics) placed precisely where it won't actually protect the paint from said offroading splatter.

They could have just gone with basic mud flaps or some clear plastic film on the doors and called it a day... Maybe this cladding is all really shopping cart dent protection.

I imagine that for the Wilderness refresh, the entire doors and hood of the car will be golf textured plastic.

Someone high up at Subaru design definitely has a hard on for black plastic. It looks cheap to me like the treatment of a stripped down base model.
