I've come to the conclusion that Ford did this right. They over engineered the F150 Lightning and stole some of Chevy's thunder. By doing so they forced Chevy's hand to push their truck to market. Now Ford can look at Chevy's truck and see what needs to be done as they prep for the second Gen. Chevy will constantly play catch up to Ford.

Chevy Silverado EV Reservations Will Begin Immediately Tomorrow

Tomorrow is a big day for General Motors and its bread and butter Chevrolet brand. The all-new 2023 Chevy Silverado EV will be officially unveiled during a live online event. The original plan was for this to take place at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) where GM CEO Mary Barra was scheduled to be the keynote speaker. GM backed out late last month over coronavirus concerns, as did many other automakers including BMW and Mercedes-Benz. But no matter. The show must go on somehow and GM is well prepared for this.

Like the currently on sale GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV will ride on the automaker's new Ultium dedicated EV architecture. The GMC Sierra EV, also due for 2023, was recently previewed but its reveal will happen at a later date.

By tomorrow at this time, we'll have full Silverado EV details but one thing is already confirmed: customer reservations will begin immediately. The live reveal will take place at 12 p.m. EST and reservations will commence exactly one hour later, according to the dedicated Silverado EV website. As of this writing, we don't know much will be required for the deposit.

It'll be interesting to see how many reservations are placed compared to the Ford F-150 Lightning which managed to an extremely impressive 20,000 in only 12 hours following its reveal. Chevy promises the Silverado EV will be extremely capable thanks to a chassis that enables things like four-wheel steering, lots of torque, and powerful batteries.

Range anxiety should not be an issue but, again, we'll get official figures tomorrow. Based on existing Ultium battery tech knowledge, a 400-mile range sounds about right. Other cool features will include a "segment-leading fixed-glass roof" that provides additional headroom and an "enhanced experience." The highest trims will also get 24-inch wheels. Both the Silverado and Sierra EVs will be built alongside each other at GM's Factory Zero facility in Detroit.

Did y'all know they started delivering Hummer EVs to customers last week? They gave a bunch of first drives to the press over the summer and started delivering them before allowing the press to release full test reports...


...except for, Doug DeF***ingMuro. I believe it's because he's a subjective reviewer and the objective results don't match what GM has been singing these past years, but for whatever reason he (and a few other subjective butt suckers) seems to have the scoop on it.

It even has the midgate like the Avalanche. This should have been named Avalanche, and they could have made an actual electric body on frame EV Silverado like Ford did with the Lightning. It seems like GM isn't even trying with their current EV plans.

I think the avalanche is the perfect platform for the EV. I personally LOVED the Avalanche smooth body construction. I would never buy a GM anything, but if I was going to get an E-truck, my heart still belongs to Rivian. Just hope the prices come down a tad.
