Default 2.2 Oil Filter Size

Hello,

I have a 2.2L OBS. When I purchase oil filters, I am given a choice between two for my car. The larger seems to be ~50% larger capacity than the smaller of two. Both match the thread pattern and bolt on fine. I'm under the impression that the larger filter is actualy for the 2.2L turbo Legacy engines and that either filter will work fine for me. I just wanted to check with my fellow owners and see which filter you use when you change your oil.

Cheers,

Mandrich

either will be fine as long as the gasket makes a complete seal. the tiny one is what subaru is changing over but the larger one is what was originally OEM on all the vehicles.

^^^ what he said.. I know my STi took a smaller filter to clear the headers because they wrap soo close to it. small one is probably for the turbo models. either way they will both work just fine

Thanks for the response. I've had no issues with the smaller filter, even when running the engine at hard. Just figured I'd ask to be sure.
