Question Check engine light...

Picked up a Forester 02 about 10 days ago...

Absolutely love it, but the 'check engine' light came on today (I'm just under 800miles). My dealer didn't seem concerned, but did say to bring it in for a check.

This happened to any other Forester owners out there?

PS- I'm aware of the gas cap thing; I really don't think it applies here...

Thanks in advance...

The check engine light came on in my car at around 6,000 mi. They kept telling me it was my gas cap They finally replaced the o2 sensor & ECU. Around 20,000 miles later it lights off again. Another new o2 sensor. Get a call from Subaru of America. We're very sorry but the o2 sensor we just installed is from a defective batch. We don't have any good ones yet. Recall letter comes in the mail & a new o2 sensor is installed. 36,000 miles & all is well. My fingers are crossed.

So far nothing yet, I have about 1,100 and I just installed a K&N air filter.

I wouldn't be too worried. A lot of things can throw a CEL. As long as the light isn't flashing, it's not something that will make the vehicle undrivable. Just let your dealer check it out and fix the cause.

If my CEL wasn't on in my Forester, my dash didn't look right to me

I had the O2 sensor in my Forester replaced 3 or 4 times and
the last time the car was stuck in limp mode and the dealer had to replace a couple fuel injectors too. All before 2,000 miles too.
Get used to the CEL!
