![]() Well I finally broke down and went to the drag strip -
I dont have a camera to take a picture of the time slip with, but here's the specifics... pacific raceways, seattle, WA -racer number #5134 - R/t- ... .199 - 60ft- ... 1.734 - 330- ... 5.172 - 1/8- ... 8.079 - MPH- ... 85.12 - 1000- ... 10.607 - 1/4 - ... 12.739 - MPH- ... 107.30 Mods/Car - 2004 WRX STi - dynojet rated at 310whp/320wtq @ 6500 rpm - stock ej25 - - VF37 Twin croll, headers, Turbo back (custom 3") - UTEC - Tuned by Herb Jackson - Perrin modded 816 injectors - Samco inlet - HKS hi-flow intake - ARC front mount - NGK +1 step colder spark plugs - Exedy stage 3 single plate clutch - Perrin pulley/ AEM alternator pulley .... basic bolt ons... plenty of tuning. Will be going back to the track once my car recovers from some front end damage - hopefully i'll get into the 12.2-12.5 range... Guess I could still improve the response time and drop a tenth or two on the sixty foot times... I just hate breaking things on the drag strip - so I baby the car a little bit... ![]() Twinscroll represent. I need to get back to the track with mine aswell
What exhaust do you have? Still running the catted JDM downpipe or switch to something better? Also how much boost? You running a helper spring or aftermarket wastegate with the twinscroll or just living with it's "nice" taper towards redline? -Tim |

![]() nice run! clearly well driven... but i dont think you've got the trap speed to run in the low 12's. a little race gas might do the trick though

![]() RT has nothing to do with you ET. The clock starts when you leave, not when the light turns green. RT just tells you how well you timed your launch. That is why a slower ET can win the race.

![]() Oh also - Was using 94 octane/10% ethanol, no nitrous, all boost.
The down pipe we used was the jdm bellmouth, sliced off at the end of the cast piece, and then mated to a perrin DP - the rest of the exhaust is 3". As for the wastegate - I went with the AVO turbo world 15psi high response adjustable wastegate actuator - Currently pushing 17psi all the way to the redline. Here's the pics of each - Stock CLOGGED and restrictive jdm catted downpipe.. ![]() modded Downpipe - ![]() pic from a side view of the DP - ![]() pic of the AVO wastegate used... ![]() info on the wastegate is found - HERE hope that helps the twin scroll peeps out there - kory www.myspace.com/04stiguy |

Full boost comes at around 2800 - very quick acceleration, and very nice top end numbers with great street driving capabilities. some video's I took a LONG time ago can be found at www.freewebtown.com/deathinacan66. - they take a while to download, but just be patient... Quote:

![]() word bro - I cant wait to move to a larger twin scroll setup -
conservatively thinking, i'd go with something along the lines of a GT32 twin scroll Aggressively thinking, i may go with a T04z, or the GT37r like the PDX twin scroll setup has.. VERY nice numbers, and extremely fast in the corners and straightaways... The torque with either turbo looks awesome... kor |

![]() i like the idea of having something that not to many people have. but performance wise you would have been better off sticking w/ the 39. seems like a lot of money spent for little results...

![]() So how big is your downpipe now? When we cut mine we welded it to the non cast section so it's only like 2.25" on mine...
You grind it down and weld at the cast looking section of the belmouth? I have an AVO 15psi wastegate actuator too but mine spikes and the boost is inconsistent - not overly happy with it really. We'll see with it turned down so it only spikes to 15psi and better boost control. -Tim |

![]() yep, same thing when we adjusted the wastegate - what we did is completely removed the factory BC, then used the settings on the Gain on the Greddy EBC in conjunction with a Profec spec-b boost controller - It holds extremely stable all the way through the redline.
remember that the actuator is adjustable and that the more you lengthen it, the more boost you get - too much and it will give you that erratic spiking problem due to the wastegate being under constant pressure. As for the DP - we cut the factory CAST piece at the 2.25" piece, and welded it onto the perrin downpipe - so its the factory bellmouth flowing to a 3" bellmouth back... not a true turbo back, but it fried the stock clutch once we put it in there - the stock cat really restricted the airflow. Once I Finished the franken-exhaust, and the stock clutch was nice and toasty - I upgraded to the Exedy single plate (stage 3) clutch - six puck streetable/racing clutch... very nice pedal feel... Other than that, its a matter of getting grip and not missing 5th gear.. The next session at the track (once it comes out of the body shop) should be interesting... We've been seeing some pretty cool research numbers from UK vehicles that Prodrive tuned with the vf36/37... very VERY quick torque and HP... This was done over 2 years ago, so its kinda ancient history compared with The GT32r kits, or the GT37r kits out there... Cant wait to go bigger! kory noble www.myspace.com/04stiguy |

funny thing though - my car came with the turbo already on it when i bought it... really, i've only spent little bits of money here or there on the actual turbo setup - the rest have been mostly supporting mods for the next big turbo kit... brand new, or used, this kit is quite spendy - let alone the support on the twin scroll setup is few and far between... awesome idea, but little research or interest... - guess thats why i always give people rides in my car - show them what the world of turbo-chargers are without any turbo-lag... Fast and to the point... |

![]() i had a vf36 in my car for a good 6 months. Honestly i think its overrated, it spooled about 200-300 rpm sooner than a vf34 setup. Maybe its different on a 2.5 block, as i have a ej207. But i didnt think it lived up to the whole "instant boost " and " fast and to the point" as people said.
i sold it and got a single scroll normal gt35r setup on a stock wrx exhaust manifold. I like the new setup a LOT better, daily driving i dont get 2-4 psi down low just from normal accellerating, and when i do want to go fast, its FASTTT. |

![]() well its dependant on what you want to spend your money on and what you want to use your car for... I use mine more for auto-x events than anything else so the twin scroll with the STi block is pretty balanced. I've driven in high horsepower subaru's and the same thing happens every time the person corners... Oversteer and torque steer - it turns into a monster the more power you have..
Not saying that ALL high horsepower cars are like that, because it was mostly dependant on the driver behind the wheel of each car... For me, the balance of the tuned vf37 is almost perfect for the driving skills that I have... I would like to attend Skip Barber Racing School BEFORE I start pushing over 400 WHP... Realistically, thats alot of HP for myself, especially if its a daily driver. If it was my race car (which it soon will be), then things would be different. As for now, I'm just trying to get it to run reliably and at a consistant power band - suspension/tires/weight - etc - are the rest of my focus... watch the video's if you need to see the 0-7k rpm roll. no double clutch, just WOT, mild launch, and all boost.-www.freewebtown.com/deathinacan66 the vids take a while to come up but they do work. ![]() yeah, but i wouldnt mess with you on a freeway.. haha... or the drag strip for that matter...
In a track race, you would pull away from me once your boost kicked in - If I had the skills, I might be able to catch you out of the corners... Straightaway speed is very essential however.. thats where you pass people... kory |

![]() the greatest thing about the NW is that there is a huge resource of high horsepower cars out on the track... By meeting new people, asking for rides, and seeing the variations in torque and HP by different setups, you can get a clear picture of what you want with your car...
Online forums are probobly the greatest resource to project car research IMO - For actually defining a reason to justify having so much horsepower in a subaru (500-600 +), a person should really attend various sanctioned events, and participate in each. To each their own passion, to each their own reason for doing things. Update on the upcoming project - Working with PDX Tuning to build the future turbo kit - exact details are in the works, but basically its a GT32R twin scroll with a target horsepower of around 490 horsepower/500 Torque @ 5500 rpm staying level until a 7500 rpm limit. This is in combination with a fully built 2.5L, with port and polished heads, and strengthened driveline/stage 4.5 exedy twin disk clutch, and much more... I should have something more about it in about 3 or 4 months... Til then I'll be re-working the entire under-chassis and suspension, interior/roll cage. After the engine, turbo, and suspension - then comes the widebody, and the Advan RG-II 18X10 with some sticky Toyo's... All this is going on while I'm stuck in ARMY in a year long deployment in Iraq... making that cash... happy tuning! kory www.myspace.com/04stiguy |
