Default 96,000km checkup & Timing Belts

Anyone got this done at a dealer before? Is it worth the about $1,000 that u gotta spend?

As well, when i talked to the guy from Docksteaders he said that the timing belt needs to be changed every 168,000km? That seems like alot to me for some strange reason. Is this right? Does anyone else ever do it earlier? Whats the work on timing belts.

Thanx, Ernie aka: Sp00lin

That's what I was told at wolfe subaru, 168,000km for timing belt. I've got 123,000km so far on my car with regular oil changes every 6,000km. Did the 48,000 service, but they really screw you on the price for what they do.

A word of advise buy your parts from the US. You will save probably 50% by buying it before you need it. I had a seal leak near the water pump. I didn't order from the US and it cost me over $700 in parts buying from the local dealer here and that was during the 'garage sale'. I did a quick lookup for a few parts on subaruparts.com and a water pump was $70 dealer here was $150 after 20% discount. Timing belt $60 dealer here was $161 after 20%. If thats not called gouging the customer I don't know what is. I changed the timing belt, waterpump and tensioner plus seals, gaskets and it was roughly $700 in parts.
And the crappy thing is I only had 65000 km. I changed it all cause I had the car apart, might as well change the things that would need to be changed at 96000 km.

Replacing a timing belt once every 160,000km is gonna be a lot cheaper than replacing it once it breaks, even if you drive the car for a few million KM

Hell, with the right tools I can do a timing belt on my car in under 90 minutes and under $100, and I dont know squat.

If your due to have it changed then get it changed. What does it say in your owners manual? If you don't do it and your timing belt snaps, you'll wish you had it replaced. I had replaced mine because I had a seal leak near the waterpump. So while everything was apart I changed the timing belt, waterpump tensioner (because that had a leak also) plus all the seals and gaskets.

And like I said in an earlier post buy the parts from the US it will save you money instead of buying it from the local dealerships.

750 sounds really expensive unless it was a rear seal.
