Default The Monster thread.

I just got back from Pike's Peak and I really want to find out more about Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima's Suzuki. I checked it out as much as I could, but the thing is like alien technology.

Q: Is that a steering angle sensor that's belt driven front the steering column?
Q: Is that really an oxygen tank for the driver?
Q: Is that really a Subaru wiper fluid bottle in the cockpit?
Q: What kind of rear differential is that?
Q: What kind of transmission? Xtrac?
Q: Is that a turbo Hayabusa V8? I could barely see the engine behind the CNC'd aluminum bulkhead.
Q: What kind of foam is used under the front splitter?
Q: Do both doors open?
Q: Can a person stand on the front splitter?
Q: Does the exhaust come out both sides? The pipes didn't look black.

Those have got to be the biggest front tires I've ever seen on a mid-engined car. I wonder what the Suzuki will look like when more of the road gets paved.

Got any info or pix?

"It is a modified Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV fitted with a nearly 1,000 horsepower, twin-turbo V6 engine in a purpose-built space-frame chassis covered by a high-strength, lightweight carbon fiber body. Getting all that power to the ground is a set of huge 285/60R18 Falken S/TZ04 tires."

Okay, twin turbo V6 then.

"2.7-liter V6 twin-turbo, producing 995 hp at 8,100 rpm
steel space frame
carbon/kevlar body
sequential six-speed gearbox
all-wheel drive
mammoth downforce-generating aerodynamic aids, including supersized front splitter, rear wing and underbody diffuser
all-up weight (including driver and fuel) of only 2,244 lb!"

Gaylor's Straights. The car is incredible. It put every other machine I've seen to shame. I couldnt believe I got this picture as teh car was moving so fast.

Kevin Hahn in the other thread has detailed pics of the wreck on practice. Rocky Mountain News website has a full story on him and the repair work.
