Unhappy Legacy Turbo heads...not so good.

In case you turbo Legacy guys haven't seen the results( http://www.cobbtuning.com/impreza/en...nderheads.html )
, Trey at Cobb Tuning went through the trouble of flow benching a few types of Subaru heads including the Legacy Turbo SOHC head. In short, the Legacy heads are next to terrible for making any kind of real power. Look for Trey's comments in the Tech forum but he basically feels that they were a poor design to begin with and even porting them would only bring them up to the stock 2.5 heads at best.

It's unfortunate that the car has a motor and drivetrain that could take a real beating if only the heads would let it. I have heard of some people turning the boost up on the Legacys, but performance gains seemed minimal, possibly due to the heads just not being able to flow much more air then a bit over stock?

In any case, I only ever planned on running around 13psi max so it's not much of a concern(I hope), but it would have been nice to know the heads were capable of some decent power had someone wanted to go that route.

BTW, the intake idea I had( gradual right-hand bend into the turbo) just isn't going to work. There is just not enough space in that area, but I'm going to look around a bit more and maybe get some other ideas.

Yes, I saw it too I didn't mention it so as not to depress anyone!

It should be noted however that it seems to be possable to swap the DOHC heads onto our turbo motors. It has been done by several already although I do not know the specifics of this swap.

I would be interested in learning what it takes to perform this swap, anyone done it?

Arik Kadosh (Tyrmelter) and Andre Vandenberg have done it in their 98 RS's.
