Default Cheap "offroad" tires that will fit stock STI wheels?

I want some cheap offroad/gravel/rally'ish type tires that I can put on my stock 17" STI BBS wheels that won't rub or anything so I won't ruin my expensive Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's.

I would also prefer lot's of durability, something that won't get worn out after one afternoon of spirited driving on dirt/gravel like some high performance summer tires will.

If you had smaller rims (I know the brakes) you could get some competition rally gravel tires - either new, or used from a rally team. 17" competition gravel tires are rare though.

The next best thing is a good set of winter tires. Something with big lugs for snow, rather than a lot of sipes, which is for ice. I use an old set of Hakka1's for RallyX.

You may also want to consider an all-season tire. That would allow you to put them on at home, drive to your play area, play, and then drive home in relative comfort. Again you want an all-season with a blockier tread pattern. Some all-seasons are not much better than summer tires on gravel. Search the Tirerack survey results for an all-season that highly rated for snow and that's probably the best bet for gravel too. The Continental ContiExtremeContact seem to be the highest in the UHPAS catagory. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

the rep of the RE92s aren't great for performance street driving, but they are one of the better tires for gravel use. you can pick those up for nearly new for dirt cheap since people with LGT and 06 WRX get rid of them quickly.
