Default sloppy shifts

Well i just purchased my first subaru, a 96 legacy awd 5 speed, good winter car for me.. well the shifter is the sloppiest shifter i have ever used, tranny works amazing, clutch feels great, shifter just flops about.. im guessing linkage problem, most likely bushings worn out? how complex is the linkage, is it multiple bars? single? ive been searching for a few hours now looking for oem companys that sell them, and am having no luck. any advice or answers, would be grealty appreciated. thanks.

Typically, the market is largest for the 97+ scoobs which means pre-97 guys are usually outta luck unless you update to a WRX linkage setup. there are a coupld of things that you can do -

1) post up a pic of your current shifter lever, and we'll see if the 96 leg is the same as the 97 impreza (don't laugh the 05 LGT linkage was a year ahead of the 06 impreza linkage)
2) there's a post in the legacy specific area with part numbers of what you need to replace all the older stuff if it doesn't match up to the 97 impreza goodies.
