Talking Excellent experience with Carter Subaru in Seattle, WA

Hello NASIOC members,

The folloing post may be a long read, but I just wanted to share with you my excellent expreience with Carter Subaru.

Recently my wife and I were looking for a 2006 subaru impreza WRX wagon. After some research though this site about good dealerships in my area I was told to try Carter Subaru, near Seattle. I e-mailed Joe Spitz reguarding the car I was looking for with the options my wife and I wanted.

Later that same day Joe himself called me back telling me that he had the exact car I wanted in the color my wife was looking for (silver). After we talked for a bit he quoted me a price way less that any other dealership would give us. He was nothing but a compleat gentleman over the phone and we set up a time to meet the next day.

The next day my wife and I headed down to the dealership with all the information we had amassed. We were well prepaired for a 2nd sicker to show up or other options we had not agreed on. Upon arival we were greeted with a host of friendly faces and offered soda or water and a place to relax. Although my wife and I are quite young (I am 22 she is 21) we had multipal plesent conversations with salesmen and customers while we waited for Joe, as he was tending to another customer.

Shortly Joe was with us and located the car on his lot. After looking over the vehicle, we asked if we could test drive the car. Joe was happy to oblige and went for the keys. Since this car was to be for my wife she drove.

Because Carter Subaru is at this time resurfacing their lot they have all of their cars in the corner of their dealership. Joe simply asked if my wife felt comfortable driving though the lot and allowed her to drive it out. Druing the exit he was extremely helpful explaining how to adjust the mirrors to compensate for the vehicles blind spots and walked her though how to get out of the sea of cars. This allowed us to get a great feel for how the car is in ridiculously tight spots and how to handle it. I know of no other dealership which would have been as trusting or helpful.

After this point we went though a standard test drive while Joe highlighted the great points of the car. Upon the return to the dealership he not only let my wife navigate back though the lot, he asked her to reverse the vehicle into its original spot, so that she could understand how eazy it is given the size of the wagon (and the double clutching procedure for reverse). Once again I was extremely impressed with his professionalism and trust.

After this we decided that we needed to go home and look into finaces and insurance, and that we would speak with Joe the next day. On the way home in the car after about 2 seconds my wife and I both decided we loved it (we had already been well aware of insurance and payments before we ever set foot on the lot).

The next day I called Joe and asked if we could come in later that evening to talk about purchasing the car. We set a time and met him later that evening. When we got there the car we set out for us washed and cleaned inside. Joe met with us and took I personal information. After this point we went though the standard signing of papers and going over featurs of the car. Once all the checks we done the financing protion of the dealership took over. We were expecting to go with our own personal bank for finacing but Subaru beat it buy a good margin saving us even more money. After everything we ended up with a payment of more than $10 less pre month than we expected.

Finally once all the papers were done it was getting late. Joe typically would have left 30 minutes earlier, but stayed around to make sure we knew all the interesting things inside the car.

I am sorry that this post has gone on so long (and with so many spelling mistakes). But never have I been so impressed with a dealership. My wife and I have bought multipal cars from many different dealers. Each time we recived great deals, but with a huge ammount of work on our part, and long drawn out offers going back and fourth. Each time I had a number in my head for a reasonable offer for our car, Joe would beat it by a good margin before I even started to haggle.

I realize that I am making Carter Subaru look like it is the best dealership in the world and that there is no one better, but in my experience this is true. Carter Subaru, and Joe Spitz went out of their way to make sure that I felt like a very valued customer. They deserve my praise, and the least I can do it sit down and write how I feel about them. I invite any other members of this board to reply with their experiences with Cater of Joe (good or bad). I hope Subaru continues to make amazing cars because I know where I will be going for my next car purchase.

Joe is fantastic. Bought from him in Mar 2006, and haven't had one problem in dealing with Joe! (Subaru paint is another thing though ).

Yes, I definatly have noticed the paint issue. Where the bend in the lower half of the doors are is TERIBBLE. Thanks for the reply, unfortuantly yesterday my wife car was hit by an uninsured motorist in a grecery store parking lot. We are now dealing with them an insurance to see what can be done about this issue. Well I guess is never ends....

That's good to hear. I'll definately have to check them out. I just had one of the worst experiences in my life at Eastside Subaru in Kirkland. I have a brand new WRX from them, took 8 hours to complete the sale! However the sale process was pretty good. 800 miles on the car and the CEL comes on, they tell me the O2 sensor is the problem, they order the part and replace it a couple days later. When the part came in. That experience wasn't too bad either.

However, 40 miles later the CEL comes back on with the same code. I swear their service personell are complete retards. They think there might be a short to ground causing the code. I took it in at 3:00 pm and they said they'd have to keep it overnight. I asked what time they close and they said 5:30 pm. THEY THEN TOLD ME THEY WERE WRAPPING UP THE DAY AND WOULD START ON IT TOMORROW! That blew me away that they were going to sit and do nothing for the last 2.5 hours of the day (I did note only one other car in the garage). They told me it would take a couple hours and be done by noon the next day. Call up at noon and they said it'd be done at 3:00. Call up at 3:00 and they said 4:30. I sit in an hour of traffic to get there at 4:30 and they said they'd have top keep it overnight again, it's friday so in other words they will be keeping it for another 3 days cause they don't work on the weekend. They also said they tried to call me to let me know and left messages (Outright LIES!).

Personally I would have been better off using my DMM and my recently purchased Subaru '06 WRX Service and Repair manual, in a few hours time I probably could have told them exactly where the problem was. I'm an engineer at Boeing, but know very little about cars. So I was surprised at how stupid they were. THE CAR IS STILL BRAND NEW!!!!

I'm going to have to give another dealership a try for warrenty work cause I never want go back to Eastside Subaru. The owner is my best friend's uncle-in-law (he got me the car at cost), and I'm so upset that I'm publicly saying don't go to Eastside Subaru.

Anyways, I keep hearing good thing about Carter Subaru so maybe if I ever get my car back, I'll take it there from now on.

Wow, Im glad i found this thread...Im ready to buy a STI and eastside subaru is 1/2 mile from my work....Looks like im calling Joe now.
