you probably need some of this...

Ditch the intake if your not already tuned for it... and like before...get some form of Tuning (cobbAP/utec/XXX) if you don't already.

I used to have an AEM CAI... I noticed my mpg were down around 9-10 city 13-16 hwy... now I'm AP stg1 w/stock intake. I get 14-17 mpg city, 22-25 highway.) This topic has been done to death. So ya... I'd search if you need more info.

Uh, you need to get EM ASAP. You should be getting in the low 20's.

05 wrx with catless up-pipe/dowpipe and catback with cobb stage 2. i get about 26 mpg mixed driving. usually around 350 miles on a full tank ~13 gallons.

-check tire pressure
-clean air filter
-basic maintenance stuff

Does the COBB stage 1 and 2 inprove gas mileage? It seems like more HP and getter MPG would be counter-intuitive

not always; too a certain point...i've tried cobb's economy map and gas mileage was worse and the car seemed to choke with such little boost.

well with freer flowing exhaust...or leses cats, engine dont have to work as hard to get the same performace...leading to high gas milage...at least that how i understand it.

I've got a pde up-pipe, hks down-pipe, CAI, no tuning, and get any where from 24 to 29 in mixed driving. Even driving the hell out of it in Glacier Park last month, I still got 24 mpg.

depends on how you make the horsepower. if you are getting that by adding more fuel and air, then yup, it will suffer. if you gain HP by increasing efficiency (better air/fuel ratio), then you are going to get better mileage with more power. An AP does both.

HAHAHAH... My father, Sister, and I all have "Mario Andredi complex". Otherwise known as "Leadfootism".. or also loosly refered to as, "Outovmyfknwyizm".

If I stay out of boost I can get better MPG I'm sure... But in the rat race that is getting to and from my work. It's either save 2-3 mpg and get to work in 15 min. Or lose 2-3 mpg and get to work in 5 min... (not even kidding...) It's only 3 miles to work, but we have 10 signal lights in those 3 miles.

no..you should get a tune because of the year of your car! its unsafe to run your car without any EM.

WHat do you mean by "it does both"? Better fuel/air ratio, or more fuel/air.... or of course, both?

Usually power is made by leaning out the mix. (Hence more boost = more power....usually) More effecient combustion would mean more power, and less fuel and air used. But this leads to an increase in stress on the internals. (and don't forget timing...)

I was getting 23 city 25 highway then i put a header/up pipe combo and a 3 inch catless turbo back and my mpg went to 25-26city and 28-30 hwy depending on how i drive. That must suck for you guys.

The gas gauge is NOT linear. I get 200 on the first half a tank....about a 100-120 on the 2nd half....

I.E. the lines mean NOTHING!
