This is coming up for sale soon, as soon as I'm done doing some more comparison tests:
IODATA AVELLinkPlayer 2. the run-down:
This is one of the few upconverting-via-component output networked dvd players in the market. Via component outputs, you can scale standard 480i/p DVDs up to 720p and 1080i resolutions. This is not an HD-DVD player, however. The colors are very accurate, will pass blacker-than-black, and feature 3:2 pull down for film material. It is also region-free. A lot of upconverting players out there will NOT upconvert movies via component output. The ones that do have serious problems with color accuracy and lag. the player is built in japan, and is very solid, with remote (the OS is in english). It will play both NTSC and PAL encoded disks. because of the excellent upconverting/scaling ability of this player, it's very ideal for people that own larger LCD/Plasma/DLP units (32" and up). it's also perfect for displays that do not have DVI or HDMI inputs.
In addition, this player can also serve as a hub for an HTPC. There is an input in the back for a local network (ethernet). So you can stream high definition DIVX, Xvid movies from your pc/laptop/mac. I will include the software for it. firmware can also be updated via ethernet.
The reason I'm selling it is because I just bought a new DVD player, and tend to watch more DVDs than I do stuff from the HTPC. The player is 1 year old. I bought it in the states, for USD275. I'm selling it for CAD200, OBO. PM if interested, or email
