Default STi's?

Were STi version WRXs or RSs ever imported to the US in any kind of scale? If so, what is the best way to locate one in decent Shape?

I might be in the market for a second car...

There has never been a STi imported in the US officially by SOA to be sold to the general public. People import STi right hand drive for off road and rally/racing purposes... Hell there has never been an official left hand drive of STi up to now. That said I think this is changing via the new age Impreza. STi will export a left hand drive new age Impreza for European consumption since the EVO VI and VII are exported as left hand drives...

Cheers

There is one possible way to legally import it. Of course this requires a little work. He he...

Take the STi totally apart in Japan or wherever it is, take pictures of everything, ship everything over to the US and rebuild it, taking lots of pictures. Now go to the DMV and say it is a kit car and it meet all the DMV rules (they have a handbook for kit cars) and it just has to pass a Kit Car Smog test, which is WAY LESS restrictive and you are good as gold.

How much would this cost?

Have a Nice Day?

Actually I thought there was an official LHD STi, in mainland Europe. I could have sworn I saw a few on various trips over there.

he he....

left hand STi no such thing offcially from Japan...

You must have seen STi look alikes or STi wannabes

Now Prodrive does a conversion ...

notice all the cars the rally folks drive Burns etc etc.... all of them left hand drive... I think for a cook $10k or something to that extend prodrive will do a left hand drive conversion...

My question is if in a couple years the new STi comes State I think the previous STi is exactly that previous model... It is like going out now and trying to import a previous gen WRX/Impreza GT. It is probably not worth the effort. If the car is not imported then it sparks an interest. If it is imported then why go throu hoops whn you can walk to your dealership and drive one off the lot.

Cheers

T.

PS: at about 2003 when the STi may come in as a 2004 MY I think a good amount of WRXs will be for sale. Even modified WRXs with effectivelly more hp than the STi (state side one). My train of thought is you can have a 300hp WRX that blows by the new STi but still it is not an STi. This is why if the Sti come over I will trade up. Now if the EVI come in as well we will have a choice but I think I still like the new age Impreza better.
