Default Caution Bears Alert...

The Colorado State Department of Fish and Wildlife is advising hikers,
hunters, fishermen, and golfers to take extra precautions and be on
the alert for bears while in the Dillon, Breckenridge, and Keystone

They advise people to wear noise-producing devices, such as little
bells, on their clothing to alert but not startle the bears
unexpectedly. They also advise you to carry pepper spray, in case of
an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch for signs
of bear activity. People should be able to recognize the difference
between black bear and grizzly bear droppings.

Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly
squirrel fur.

Grizzly bear droppings have bells in them and smell like pepper spray.

I just moved down to Denver from Breck (lived there and Keystone for 3 years) and this past summer, there was always black bears in town! I always have my pepper spray when I'm boarding, of course thats for the TEXAS "skiiers". :monkey:

If you see a griz at Keystone, you've been sniffing too much pepper spray. My thought is that bells for bears teach them it's supper time.

Okay, now the truth about bears and pepper spray, is that pepper spray will likely turn aside a charging bear -- and special bear-sized pepper spray is sold for this use.

HOWEVER, pepper spray is NOT BEAR REPELLENT!! Quite the opposite, in fact. Bears will go WAY out of their way to roll in bushes treated with pepper spray for some reason.

The link has pics of bears treating sprayed areas like catnip.

Personally, I kind of cheer inside everytime I hear a story of a wild animal taking out a stupid human. It makes me happy that darwinism still works...

Finally, what the hell does this have to do with my Subaru?
