Default Boost gauge problem, need some help!

heres the deal, i got my boost gauge. i went with the autometer sport comp, the gauge looks great and is in new shape. after waiting one day for it to come in at the store, i pick it up. when i open it up its missing parts, like the fittings and light bulb. i went back there today and they gave it to me. now i hooked up the gauge and it doesn't work but i can hear the pressure sucking. i hook up my bros autometer and it works perfectly on my car. the damn gauge is a dud, the thing is, shouldn't the meter be at zero when it isn't connected? mine is at 30 vacuum and it doesn't move, the thing is also i cut like half of the screw thingy that sticks out on the back but they should take it back regardless b/c i had to install it to find out that it doesn't work. so what should i do? since its not at zero when not plugged in, would that be a dead giveaway that its broken?

Default you're right...

I'd definitely try to take it back. I hear mixed opinions about autometer boost gauges. I bought the same one as you and it seems to work fine, calibration seems right on. maybe I was a lucky one though....?

Yep, take it back. You should not be hearing a "sucking" sound and the gauge should be at zero. I would say there is either an installation problem or the gauge has an internal leak, but it is a moot point anyway on the installation issue as the gauge should be reading zero right out of the box.

I have the Autometer Sport Comp too and it has worked flawlessly. Another post tonight mentioned something about Defi gauges being somewhat inaccurate. If that is true I would be really pissed as expensive as they are!

Return it. My Autometer boost gauge has always worked well. Yours should too. Good Luck.

If its reading 30 vacuum, sounds like maybe it was dropped and the needle is pointing in the wrong place?
