Default Hard snow damaging undercarriage?

My wagon is lowered on Prodrive springs, I wouldn't consider it low by any means but lower nonetheless. I find it hard to get through back alleys and most residential streets without my undercarriage scrapping the snow. I'm worried that my exhaust might fall off the hangers. It happened to my '89 Honda Civic many many years ago, I drove through an un-plowed laneway and next thing I know my muffler was dragging on the ground I try to avoid un-plowed streets best I can but it's near impossible to avoid.

Anyone have problems with snow (ice) damaging their undercarriage?

i'm scrapping like a mofo too.. lol.. but i don't know.. my front lip seems to be the lowest point of the car.. next is my exhaust pipe.. then maybe my lower arm bar.. but something is definitely scrapping..

would my factory undercoat rub off and rust??? this is what worries me..

Yeah the noises I hear are driving me crazy, I feel that my downpipe is what scraping... or my lower arm brace. Can't really do much about it though, its going to be worse tomorrow when all the snow will be frozen

I hope it didn't do too much damage.
I spent 2 hours driving through those icey chunks, sliding here and there.

Exhaust... depends on the material its made of. Aluminized steel may dent or break off. Stainless or titanium should dent the snow. Same with your undercarriage. For the size of your car going over the amount of snow your on, the metal should win the fight.

i'm lowered too and hear a whole bunch of noise from clunk clunk clunk to constant scrape. I dont' think it's really that much to worry about. The undercoating issue, perhaps but the downpipe and stuff should be ok right?. Their pretty solid on there. and the heat from it will prevent it from freezing.

Stupid chunks of ice on the mainroads making suspension clunk like crazy though. going to wait till al the snow goes away and wash the bottom. yeh..

thank goodness i decided not to get a lip.

I was washing all the snow/ice off every night from the car just to get rid of the salt mixed in with it, but today I just tried and the water line outside is frozen

Yeah, this ice and freezing is bull****. Ironically, the city in ontario I was living in is both warmer and devoid of snow at this point. I moved here to get away from this kinda weather

Last night around my house, the temp dropped down below -11 C. They say when temps go below -6 they start mixing sand with the salt on the roads--that will be a nice mess to clean up....

I've been keeping the lights in my garage on all night (2 x 200w bulbs) to keep the temperature up and melt the snow/ice that's on the STI. With the hot engine, it kept it to +4 C this morning.

My car is lowered about 24mm front and I've got a heat wrapped DP...needless to say the ice/hardend snow did a nice job on the heat wrap. Makes me want to cry.

wouldn't hosing it down wet the salt to the extent where it actually speeds up the disolving of salt into the metal? Like i know it's not much different than driving right now and having snow melt with the salt but you'd think there is more dry salt stuck to the car than wet salt...i don't know.

i had to lift up the back of my car after autox because so much snow just stuck under there i had very little suspension in the back.. if the tires tried to go up, they just hit the frozen ice/snow in the wheel well and yea...

My steering wheel couldn't turn more than 270 degrees after playing some more at autox that afternoon.

^me three... special thanks goes to all the people that lend me their ice scrapers at boundary bay... when i got home, i cleared about 4 to 5 shovels of snow from my four wheel wells and rims... now i have a gardening tool in the trunk to remove that snow if necessary...

I'm hearing scraping noises as well, but that's from the snow built up in the wheel wells. Clean those out and see if it makes a difference.

I know our saabaru 92x aero comes with a underbody shield made of some kinda plastic. I imagine WRXs do too. It should protect the under portion of the engine no? Having said that, I removed it when I changed oil and didn't bother to put it back on...
