I did. offset's manifesto (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=824983) sez I just need a reverse (male?) harness. but the stock HU thread (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402) sez that newer subs are connected to the HU via an 8-pin connector in addition to the 14-pin. I've got an 06 WRX so I'm guessing that applies to me. Dunno if there's a reverse harness available for the 8-pin connector.

So I guess what I really want is a walkthrough specific to the 06 WRX. Probably too much to ask.

First, in response to the original post: Gee, that's a bit expensive. There are places out there selling this for less. Search and you will find.

The link is indeed for a "reverse" harness. It looks like the original factory radio harness you'll see inside the dash that plugs into the rear of the stock radio. EDIT: The picture on that web page incorrectly shows a forward harness.

Now for the bad news: The SU03R lacks one of the dimmer wires . So Subaru radios won't light up correctly (or at all). The whole reason you'd want to buy one of these is to plug into a factory radio, so you really want all 14 wires.

See this pin-out for details as well as useful links at the bottom.

Connecting the factory sub to an aftermarket HU is actually very easy provided that you use a wiring adapter ("forward" harness) to install your HU.

For the "old-style" subwoofer harness, you'll just insert it into the connection like you would with the factory radio...

Before: car harness--> ]forward harness ---- HU harness> ]HU

After: car harness--> ]sub harness> ]forward harness ---- HU harness> ]HU

(the sub harness has both genders and looks like a short extension cord)

For the "new-style" subwoofer harness, you need to splice two of the wires on the 8-pin plug onto the same colored wires running between the 14-pin plugs. See this thread (pictures in post #18, mod in posts 20 & 21):
stock sub w/ aftermarket hu
If you don't want to splice into your factory sub harness, then yes, you would need a mating 8-pin connector (it would be a "forward" in this case, the same gender as what's on the back of the radio). I haven't been able to find these yet. Next best option would be to buy or build an "old-style" sub harness.
