Default Help! Differences between 04 & 05 STi ECU

Hi, there. I am working on a swap; but the 05 sti ecu doesn't work with the key anymore because it has been sitting for a while. If I use a 04 sti ecu and reflash it, would there be any difference between the 04 sti ecu and the 05 ecu except the immobilizer? Any performance differences? Thanks.

There is not much difference (or any difference in most tables) in the actual fuel, timing, AVCS, etc. tables. Yes, the 2005 uses a slightly newer CPU with more memory, though it may not make much difference in performance if any. Probably none, especially after tuning.

It is certainly possible on paper to make a 2004 ECU drive a 2005 car. It's not like the 2005 has a different engine. AFAIK there is no significant difference in the physical configuration. It's probably more trouble than it is worth to work around the wiring and immobilizer issues you are likely to encounter. Just buy a new 2005 ECU if you need one.

The dealer should be able to re-initilize or whatever the immobilizer. Why don't you just do that?
