Default sti block sohc heads... what pistons/rods to go with?

What rod/piston combo should I go with?
I feel it will be a lot simpler to find components that play well together with each other if I buy from one company.
I decided to go with cobb.

I want to buid a reliable turbo engine, using an sti block as a base, 2.5RS SOHC heads, pushing no more than 20psi.
I am almost dead set on getting there high lift valve train kit (springs retainers).
I think I am going with there street performer cam.

My question is what combo of there long or standard rods VS there long or standard rod pistons should I go with?

Should I go with there standard rods but long pistons to try to lower the compression?
or
Should I go with there standard rods and pistons?
or
Is there something special about there long rod and long piston combo that Im not seeing?

for going wit the sti short block and say the RS heads

go stock sti rods
twe pistons (sti) w/ the SOHC RS head ur right around 9.0 to -8.9 to 1 CR
stock cranks
twe springs, retainers and stage 2 cam
go w/ a VF series turbo and have a 20g compressor side put on

that's the combo i was gonna use and talked to TWE and they are very knowledgable and have some of the best stuff out in my opions

hope that helps

Stock sti rods, or stock length sti rods?
How much power/rpm can the stock rods hold up to?

Thank you very much for the help, and thank you for the tip on twe.
They seem to have there stuff together, not that cobb dosent. All I know is they look to have about the same quality product but I dropped an email to both, cobb blew me off and twe got right back to me.... Gee I wonder who I am going to buy from

For no more than 20psi why do anything to the internals? Brand new STi shortbock is capable as is for the build you describe.

Also, head items, unless you plan to rev the damn thing to the moon, again, kind of a waste of money.

If this is a daily driver street car...think good torque and power between 3-6K, most fun by far compared to huge turbo, track or strip/high HP numbers cars.

What's more important to you, a long mod list, or more money in your pocket? Just my 02 cents.

very good point.
The long expensive mod list is 3 reasons... one of which I admit is very vain but hell, might as well have some fun right?
1: Paranoia, I have no clue what you can squeeze out of a stock STI block, just what I read on-line.. Id rather have an over built lower end than an under-built one.
2: I one day want this car to be a dedicated track car so I would like to upgrade as I go until that day so I don’t have that initial sticker shock.
3: (the vain one) I don’t want to just make the RS, WRX, and L guys drool; I want to make the STI guys envious of the power plant.

Though what you say is very tempting. Just slap it together stock STI internals, throw a better cam in the RS heads with stock valve train and if it nukes once I slap on the turbo and other stuff, the money I have saved by not upgrading will buy me a whole new short block....

I like it.

Plus something in the back of my soul tells me that no matter what type of money I want to invest in a good lower end, it will be far better spent on drive train.
