Default 30,000 mile Checkup Questions?

Please, I dont want to get flammed, but i need some advice on changing my tranny oil and fluids and spark plugs and all of the other stuff included in a check up. Well, here goes, i have never changed my tranny oil, or gear fluids, or spark plugs, or anything to that effect, and i have just under 50K miles on my MY98 RS. I Love my RS and i want to treat it like it deserves to be treated. So what does everyone recommend? Lately my car has been running funny, i feel a lag and a drain in power when i hit the throttle. I dont have a turbo, so it is not turbo lag, but i have recently installed an UR crank pulley. But anyway, would this check up at a local SOA cost me less than a 100 dollars, including parts and labor? I am afraid that I might find out some bad news, like your tranny will only last for 1000 more miles Thanks for all of your help.

You're only 20k miles late for your 30k service?
No way in heck you're outa there for anywhere near $100. I'm guessing $350-400

I'd say new plugs, maybe wires too. Air filter?

300-400 seems like too much. Say i dont get a new air filter, so that shaves off about 50 bucks. But why so much?

By 30K you should do air and fuel filters, both of which are easy DIY jobs. And if you need an air filter see me - I've got a couple..and I'm near you.

Also the brake fluid should have been changed by now - and it's not a bad idea at 50K to do the tranny and diff fluids - which are a lot easier on a lift. Other than that you've got the usual inspections, oil services, tire rotation, and so forth. The dealers prices on these services are a rip - go with an independant if you don't want to do them yourself.

The maintenance schedule is in your owner's manual. If you seriously haven't been keeping up with scheduled maintenance, then you're going to be in for a lot of work/money. If you are not mechanically inclined, just take it to a dealer and save yourself the agrivation. If you are mechanically inclined and just haven't worked on the car, search on 30K service for more information. And if you really are 20K late for your 30K service, read your manual and do ALL the services from 30K - 50K to catch up. If you don't, you'll just pay for it later...
